Remembrance Ceremonies for 9/11

On the ten year anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11/01 the public was invited to attend two 9/11 ceremonies. At 8:30 a.m. - 9:45a.m. the East Haven Volunteer Firefighters Assoc. ceremony recalled the day by playing audio recordings from that day at the times when major events happened. Then at 10:00 a.m. a Group Remembrance was quietly held. Photos by Frances Caprio Foley and Judge Michael Albis.

Fall Festival Car Show 2011

The annual Fall Festival Car Show attracts classic car owners from around the region.This car show consistently displays the nicest selection of cars in New Haven County. The shade of the historic East Haven Town Green is a perfect spot for cooling hot classic cars on a balmy summer's day. Over 240 cars have participated in the past. Cosey Beach After Irene

Frances and Edward Foley walked the west side of Cosey Beach Ave. in East Haven CT and captured these images of the devastation from Hurricane Irene on August 28, 2011. Irene was one of the most destructive storms to hit East Haven. The devastation was caused by the combination of the storm surge and the tides of a new moon and the storm made landfall at high tide. A mandatory evacuation of the area was ordered the day before. No lives were lost.

Korean War Veterans Appreciation Ceremony

On October 18, 2010 The Secretary of the State’s Office, Susan Bysiewicz along with East Haven Mayor April Capone Almon held a Korean War Veterans Appreciation Ceremony in the Auditorium at the East Haven High School. Two hundred veterans and their families come out to the ceremony where they were presented with certificates. Photos by Tammy A. Community Classic Road Race

The 5k Community Classic Road Race, remains a showcase event of the East Haven Fall Festival. This footrace, allowing wheelchairs, is a certified 5K race, which is open to male and female participants in divisions from under 12 years of age to over 80 years of age. It includes a special high school runners team division. The race is a flat course which is run on streets throughout East Haven and is designed to achieve personal bests. Fall Festival 2009

The first Fall Festival was a two-day experiment featuring live entertainment, restaurant booths, a business expo, rides for small children, games and activities offered by local civic groups, and an arts and crafts exhibition. The experiment was an overwhelming success and the Festival has been held every year since, growing to a three-day event boasting renowned musical performers and additional features such as the Community Classic Road Race, the Fall Festival Classic Car Show, and the Teen Corner. Town Hall Flocked

The Town Hall was flocked! Mayor April and her staffed arrived to work today to find the front lawn of Town Hall covered with over 50 hot pink flamingoes! “You’ve been Flocked” is a fundraiser being done by the East Haven Predators. The Predators are a baseball team that is fundraising their way to Cooperstown, New York to compete with other 12 year olds from all over the country! Old Cemetery

The Old Cemetery in East Haven, Connecticut, first called the "Burying Ground." Registered as a National Historic Place with the Parks Department in Washington, DC. The land on River Street was sequestered on June 13, 1707. The oldest stone in the Burying Ground found bears the date of 1712.

August 3rd was the first Sunday for the East haven Farmers' Market at Town Hall. Opening at 10 am the town hall parking lot was abuzz with shoppers. The products were local and fresh. The Farmers' Market is every Sunday through October 26th from 10am - 3pm. Come down with the family buy some fresh bread, fruits, vegetables, meats, jewelry, handbags and beauty items. Mayor Almon Rides with Red Knights

Mayor Almon joined the Shoreline Chapter of the Red Knights (firefighters) Motorcycle Club on their 6th annual charity ride through the shoreline ending at Lakeview Plaza on Sunday August 3rd. The ride benefits the Connecticut Burn Camp, Mayor April is pictured with several of the clubs members. To date the annual events have raised more that $50,000.

Town-wide Spring Clean-up Day May 31, 2008

East Haven Mayor April Capone Almon has taken the opportunity to launch the Mayors’ Council on Volunteerism and Public Service, with an event to ‘Make East Haven Shine’. The Mayors’ Council, made up of Almon, her four predecessors and citizen volunteers, will host a town-wide spring clean-up on Saturday May 31, 2008. The goal is to work as a community to beautify the town by removing trash and debris from the roadsides in East Haven. Participants will begin a spring face lift for their community by collecting papers and garbage along main roads, parks, cemeteries, schools and even in their own neighborhoods.

147 Cosey Beach: The Birth of a New Public Park in East Haven CT

This album documents the development of a new public park from an abandoned burnt out building in East Haven CT. The 147 Cosey Beach Commission meets monthly to plan, fund raise and manage the development of this new public space. Girl Scout Week

On March 17th Mayor April gathered with East Haven’s Girl Scout Troops and their families in the main atrium of town hall. The Mayor presented the assembled Girl Scout trops with a proclamation for Girl Scout Week. After the presentation the Girl Scouts toured the Mayor’s offices.
