Heroes’ square Budapest. The millenial monument built 1896 to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of the arrival of Hungarians in the Carpathian Basin. The monument consists of two semi-circles on the top of which the symbols of War and Peace, Work and Wellfare, Knowledge and Glory can be seen.

The Liberation Monument, which is a 14m-high female figure holding the palm of victory, stands at the top of Gellért Hill. It was erected in 1947 to mark the liberation of the capital from the Germans in 1945 by Soviet troops.
