Green Roof EcoTour Earthday 2009

Green Roof EcoTour on the Green Line metro on Earthday Wednesday, 4/22 starting at 9 AM and ending at 2 PM. DC Army National Guard partnered with Wholeness for Humanity to receive a two hour Eco walking tour (and Metrorail) comprised of sustainable sites, green buildings ASLA and U.S. DOT Green Roofs ending with lunch and networking.

PowerPlant EcoTour March 1, 2009

Public attention to environmental issues has heightened and communities want to know what they can do regarding implementing green development practices. Cyclists go past three Power Plants and CSX Coal Train Crash site - meet ECC at Hensen Center, then stop at Kingman Island on the way - more possibilities. Who is being invited? This event will be led by Wholeness for Humanity with influential members of the Chesapeake Bay Watershed including administrators from local government offices, schools, chambers of commerce. The purpose is to share ideas and knowledge between communities, while gaining insight into experiences with environmental restoration and stewardship.

Three events - with a number of host sites and service events partnered in on our program focused on raising awareness s of Health, Environment, Social Justice and Peace and showing how all are interconnected. - As Obama proclaimed in his inaugural address - many of the things we focus on i.e. interfaith - respecting others cultures.

See our Nation's Capitol as few have; all of which at night with illuminated granite buildings, quiet streets, easy parking, and low traffic will contribute to an experience that will long be remembered. Cycle by the Nation’s Capitol, ride along the Mall past the Smithsonian Museums, the Washington Monument, Vietnam Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, flights from Reagan National over Haines Point, then ride along the banks of the serene rippling nighttime Potomac on the way back to the ride start. Enjoy hot drinks from Starbucks while waiting for the ride start.

The Department of State has outlined the following specific objectives for the project: To examine the social, economic and political factors that influence state and federal governments, industry, and NGO stakeholders in the development and implementation of environmental policies and measures that impact urban communities; *** To explore various approaches to urban environmental concerns, such as air and water pollution, sanitation and waste management, architectural and infrastructure decay, the impact of natural disasters and the depletion of natural resources; *** To demonstrate how environmental awareness has become a major consideration in education, marketing and city planning in the United States.

2008 Cherry Blossom Anacostia EcoTour - April 5th

15 Mile bike ride highlighting environmental successes - due to thunder and rain forecasts many partnered events got cancelled but our hard core riders came through and it was a glorious day. Nationals Stadium Ball Park, Anacostia Park, Student Conservation Corps Urban Tree House, DuPont Ice Rink Rain Gardens, Marvin Gaye Park, Lady Byrd Johnson Park, Benning Road Hydrogen Station - over bridge to Kingman Island, passed within a block of RiverSmart home in Ward 6, although on EcoTour route, due to time and hunger, rushed past and ended with lunch at "On the Fly".
