"Funnily enough I don't mind the look of the ZCs. I think they look a heck of a lot better than the rebuilt MKA's do!
I believe TasRail is still viable but they do have a lot of work to do of course. I have plenty more photos of the AN era to upload, lots more ZC photos as well as everything else that was running at the time."

"yes, it was an interesting time due to the two brake systems and also the variation in coupling systems, which required some wagons to be placed in particular order, as some of the vacuum braked wagons had auto couplers, others had transition couplers with retractable buffers (like the vast majority of locos) but many of the older ones did not. also some grover bogie ballast hoppers remained in use, probably the last four wheel wagons on the system."

"ugly locos, but when i was railfanning the system - at the same time as you - i didn't appreciate them fully - the ZC era was the last period i would have regarded tasrail as a viable and innovative system. traffic in the hobart area was buzzing at that time. super, acid, zinc, containers, cement, even a bit of coal and sawn timber. in retrospect, a lot of variety going to a lot of destinations."

"tarped HA next to the loco, one of the 'single' super hoppers as opposed to the double HH and there was even one triple made by welding three HA together. HAs were originally iron ore hoppers and lacked capacity as super wagons so tasrail did a bit of kitbashing to expand their capacity while staying within the axle loading limits."

"i wonder if this is the boyer paper train. this train did some famously fast runs through the suburbs. in fact the crew seemed to make a special point of trying to hit 90km/h while collecting train orders through derwent park. maybe they had a dare going with the stationmaster. but probably not today as the Ys were a bit sluggish."
