"The monkey population here is fairly large and are unfriendly to visitors. Visitors are advised to stay away from them. Robbing of hats, specticles and loose items from the tourists is not uncommon."

"Located in the north-west Himalayas at an average altitude of 2,205 metres (7,234 ft), the city of Shimla, draped in forests of pine, rhododendron, and oak, experiences pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters. The city is famous for its buildings styled in tudorbethan and neo-gothic architecture dating from the colonial era."

"The sanctuary is built over a huge rock jutting out of the ground, which was worshiped as an image of the deity. The structure was built in the year 1553. The Hidimbi Devi Temple has intricately carved wooden doors and a 24 meters tall wooden "shikhar" or tower above the sanctuary. The tower consists of three square roofs covered with timber tiles and a fourth brass cone-shaped roof at the top. The earth goddess Durga forms the theme of the main door carvings."

"Set within the large wooded estate of Summer Hill with a commanding view of Shimla is the estate of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study. Crowning the estate is the imposing Victorian edifice of the ViceRegal Lodge built in 1888 and among British India's most monumental constructions."
