Audubon makes a brief appearance as the clouds lift. This is one of the easiest 13ers in the state.
Pagoda, Longs, and Meeker above the clouds to the north.
Jim and Karen near the summit of "Notabon" With Audubon and Paiute in the background.
Ogalalla and Elk Tooth to the north.
Jim nears the summit of Audubon.
A ho-hum no views summit shot of Jim and Karen.
On the foggy ridge to Pauite. Visibility dropped to about 200 feet or less on this easy traverse.
Looking back at the most exposed section of the ridge. This traverse is class 3 on the crest of the ridge, but the class 3 can be avoided.
Looking over to the tougher north summit of Paiute.
Looking back to the southern summit. Hard to tell which one is higher, so go to both!
The downclimb off the southern summit of Paiute to the northern one.
Looking up Paiute's south ridge from near the Toll saddle. I took the path of least resistance by avoiding this on the opposite (east) side.
Looking down from the top of the class 3 crux on the n.w. face of Toll. The route enters this gully on the wide ledge to the right.
Nearing the top of the gully on the n.w. face of Toll. The exit is the little notch just right of center. Slick terrain, but mostly class 2.
Looking down one of the gnarly ridges on Toll.
The view down the gully from near the top.
I finally get to see what I climbed as Toll appears on the hike over to Pawnee. The nw face route tops out at the low point of the ridge on the left.
Pawnee is the final peak of the day, a short 400 foot climb from this broad saddle. Thunder rumbled in the distance as I neared the summit, so I got the heck out of there!
Blue Lake breaks out of the clouds below the south slopes of Audubon.
Believe it or not, there's a class 2 grassy route down this steep stuff above Blue Lake.
Early season snow and it's still summer in CO! It snowed down to the trailhead.
An unnamed lake below Blue Lake.
