Summer Holiday Day 4
We got up early on the Sunday morning hoping we could finally catch a jetfoil ferry across to Yakushima. The ferry we had planned to take at 9am was canceled, but their competition had a ferry going at 10am, and had dropped their price. So we had no trouble getting to Yakushima, and saved some money too.
The waves were a bit rough in the final leg of the 2 1/2 hour trip. Other than that the weather was perfect, and we got a nice view of the Ibusuki Peninsular, with Mt Kaimon, shaped like Mt Fuji, and of Tanegashima, the island used for rocket launches by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.
After arriving we took care of the car rental, lunch and some sightseeing before checking in at our lodge. We borrowed some towels and a skirt-like towel for Mayus’s modesty at the seaside onsen (bath), that was the next stop.
