Bethesda before the wedding

Our day in Bethesda began with a "business" meeting at the Patterson-Flaherty home to discuss plans for the wedding. After that, we went to the facility where the wedding will be held and took a short tour before moving in the supplies we had brought for the wedding. We ended the day with a familiy dinner at the Bethesda Crab House.

We started and ended in Lijiang, but had a taxi drive us into the countryside for some sightseeing. We went to Baisha for sure, and some other places that I may or may not be able to document. Our driver spoke only a few occasional words of English, and our Chinese occasionally enabled us to ask a question that seemed to be understood, but we never really understood the answer!

The day was spent traveling to and from Suzhou, where we met Philllip Addicks and his roommate, Kevin, for a tour of the Garden of the Humble Administrator and a tour of the canals of Suzhou.

Day-03, Searching for the Szafrans

Today, we took a short walk around the French Concession where our hotel is located. This is a great area to be in. It looks very European, with lots of shops and restaurants around. Matt met us about 1:00 with his driver and we went out in search of the locations where Carol's family had lived when they were in Shanghai during WWII. It was a very interesting afternoon that we could not have done without Matthew's help. The marker on the map for this album is placed about where the Ohel Moishe Synagogue is located, Make sure that you have the "Map" view selected, as the marker seems to shift in other views(?!)
