India: VSPCA
Visakha SPCA (www.vspca.com) is a large animal sanctuary on the east coast of India in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. We are a home for dogs, cats, turtles, monkeys, cows, buffaloes, birds, horses, and other distressed and abandoned animals. The number of animals that we rescue and treat is increasing every year. We have over 40 workers from the poor and needy villages nearby and give meaningful employment to those who would otherwise have little work. Our shelter is an eco-friendly environment as we have many plants for wildlife protection; we use and make biogas (energy from cow dung) and vermicompost. We have an animal ambulance and are on call to help SOS animals in our community. We have done ABC (animal birth control: spay/neuter and rabies vaccination) to over 70,000 dogs in our city. We also do outreach to farmers, schools and the general public for humane education, sea turtle protection and teach animal birth control methods to help dogs and cats.
