Feb '07 - demolition begins in Ted's old office
First, everything needs to be stripped to the core.
Ted's gutted office, from front windows.
Ted's gutted office, from the back, looking towards street.
May 2007 - restoration begins on the front facade.
The sandstone was cleaned and tuck-pointed.
Look at that beautiful, clean sandstone!
What is going on here???
John, is using the chainsaw to prune the trees out front (I had to catch the photo on the security cams).
The old glass has been removed, and David's crew boarded up the building.
Rotted, old window sills.
Now, Ron needed to demo, and board-up the office for installation of the new door.
Nice wall treatment under that drywall!
Meanwhile, David worked on installing new window sills.
Faux wall from inside Kurz buliding.
CGS Masonry began working on a Saturday in May.
First they cut holes for the C-beams.
Then the beams were installed.
The first spot of daylight, through the wall - looks like we have a mouse with diamond teeth working here.
First daylight into the Kurz building - what a mess piled up there!
Andrew & Diane went to Casa Verde to buy plants for the shops.
and more plants....
and a bit of soil...
That is a lot of plants!
Next step, cut through the walls.
Drew and Diane worked on the plants while the masons worked on the wall openings.
Note the blocks being knocked out from inside.
We have an opening!
Ron is still working on that wall...
...with some help from David.
First opening, inside Kurz building.
That is a LOT of construction debris.
Things are looking a bit rough, but we now have openings in both buildings.
welding in the C-beams
new fence!
The glass has finially arrived!
Front windows - how exciting!
We have glass we haven't used yet.
June 2007, forms are begun for concrete.
The front curb takes a little extra time to develop.
F-800?? That is one heavy-duty truck! Used to remove old driveway debris.
The demolition of the old driveway took most of a day.
All prepped, and ready for new concrete.
Ta-da! We now have a new driveway..... too bad we can't use it for another week.
The front portion of the drive was stamped & dyed to give it a marbled effect.
Nice curb! It will be even better, when the garden is planted.
GOSH - how is one to work amongst all this construction?!?
July 2007 - new signage
Sign-lite provided the signage & installation.
All fingerprints removed - now that is some fine installation!
Welding of the trusses
The whole team was required to unload the new gate from the truck.
Alex - behind bars.
Dave takes a panel, the driver “supervises” -- hard worker!
It took FIVE GUYS to carry each frame panel for the gate.
The gate's first home will be in the showroom, until Daniel & John take the time to hang it in the drive.
John meticulously painted all surfaces of the trusses.
Jim Piccirillo (City of Cleveland) and John make some color choices.
We applied for, and received, a city grant to help with the exterior renovations -- our tax money does come back around to help us out!!
John & Frank Piccirillo - the exterior renovations are essentially done!
Painted trusses, blue sky, no glass yet.
Now the ceiling can be installed.
Andrew took care of landscaping the new front bed.
The first car to take advantage of the new breezeway.
from Sarah's office, looking out.
David has framed the new window into Sarah's office.
Consultation with Ted Kurz - Architecht
John makes some decisions regarding placement of the new lifts.
John “We are going to need some room on this side...”
The ceiling is too low - Johm makes some alterations.
David Lindsay's crew continues work on the new showroom - lights & a new drop ceiling.
