Our 1st night at Huis Ten Bosch
The famous Sasebo burger is served at the Log Kit in Sasebo - many of them in Sasebo, all of them with western (cowboy) settings.
Entrance of the Log Kit we went
Up the staircase - each step has a license plate attached to it
A real Utah plate
Probably produced for Elvis fans (not a real plate)
Halloween decorations inside the Log Kit
Patrons at the counter
My lunch of the day - Special Sasebo Burger loaded with calories and fat!!!
After our heavy burger lunch, we took the 99-Islands cruise nearby
Old version of the cruise
Beautiful islands throughout the entire journey
Nature's sculpture with the creator being God
Pearl cultivating area
Each of the floating object looks like a bowling ball
Oyster cultivating area
Close-up of the cultivating area
After the cruise, we went to the aquarium
A model viking ship
A wooden mini light house that really existed/exists in Hirado, a nearby island where my friends were from origianlly
Sea turtles - probably the feature animal in the aquarium
Very ancient looking specie about 50cmx50cm large
Starfish etc.
Mermaid signs =)
2nd day of our trip - Nagasaki Okunchi (festival) held in Nagasaki City
Big screen right outside the JR station showing all the actions
Opening dance performance
The 1st float we saw, performed by an energetic team consisted of men and children representing their town
Here they were swinging the 2.5-tonned float back and forth with impressively high momentum
I couldn't take a good shot but one member is a caucasian - he was on TV that morning
The 2nd float we saw - a dragon boat
See the dragon's head? Smoke comes out of its mouth many times throughout the high-energy performance.
We chased after another float to Nagasaki Broadcast where the float was scheduled to drop by to greet the sponsor. We failed to catch the float but it's interesting to see the cartoon characters having blonde hair.
We caught this float
Another impressive performance where the men actually threw the float up and several times
Accompanying musical team
Performers in China dresses
Lively dragon dance
It was about 5pm at this time, by which the team must have repeated the same dance many times at different sponsors
The team looked a bit wearied, nonetheless high-energy performance
The dragon was gone
After an afternoon chasing after the floats, we went to the famous Megane Hashi (Eyeglasses Bridge)
If this shot doesn't describe the bridge's name....
.....this should - you see how the semi-circles combine with the shadows in the river, creating an image of a pair of glasses?
Before dinner, we were wondering around downtown
My friend who lived in Nagasaki City for 5 years told us that this is like a funky, trendy restaurant area (probably equivalent of Higashidori in Umeda, Osaka)
Another part of the area
A Japanese sweets shop that sells a unique castella called Momo (peach) Castella - the top looks like the Chinese birthday peach buns and the bottom is the famous Nagasaki Castella cake
Chinatown at night
On our way to the famous Kousanrou Chinese Restaurant where we had dinner
A million-dollar view outside our hotel
Too bad I forgot to take a picture the night before
Last stop of our trip - Huis Ten Bosch - a Holland replica
Roman letters are shown on the clock to the right but I couldn't figure out the letters on the left. My educated guess is Dutch
Main entrance of Hui Ten Bosch
An image that reminds me of world peace
Holland replica - windmill should not be a surprise
Very pretty and colourful
One purpose for having a windmill is to prevent flooding
The whole theme park is very pretty and colourful
When the tulip season comes, it should even be prettier
I was personally attracted to this plant
It happened to be Thanksgiving in Canada - gigantic western pumpkins are perfect, festive items
Another pretty, colourful sight
This one was donated by a Japanese and the bear's name is Hanako - how original!
Teddy Bear Museum
Many bears were donations
An American navy (Nagasaki is famous for its navy base)
A cruise we took inside Huis Ten Bosch
Different views seen from the cruise
A jelly fish at the dock
Huis Ten Bosch observation tower
Overlooking from the tower top
Many restaurants have patios
A new adventure in the theme park - your profile gets scanned and projected on one of the characters in the feature film; minutes later, you get to see the short film where you're one of the actors/actresses.
This theatre is a little bit similar to the Small World of Disney (just a little)
Miffy Store
Miffy is very famous in Japan
Dutch wooden shoes
Do I look good in them?
It's huge!
Do you believe me now?
Memorabilia from my friend - a cute magnet on my fridge now
Wine tasting was going on
Last chance for souvenir shopping
Chocolate falls!!! There's one bigger in San Francisco
What a fun entry/exit sign for the theme park!!!
