Civil Rights Birmingham 1963
In May of 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. joined forces with Fred Shuttlesworth to lead a boycott of a segregated downtown Birmingham. People of all ages, particularly high school, junior high, and elementary school children marched for freedom. They were met with hoses and dogs of Police Comissioner Bull Conner. The violence which ensued was instramental in "waking up" America to the cruelty of a segregated South.
