Inverting a bottle jack for a press.

Budget hydraulic presses often use a bottle jack mounted such that the ram is fixed and the cylinder moves. This needs some guide structure to locate the jack base. I prefer to invert the jack but that requires some simple modifications. These pix. show how simple this can be. The frame of the press was constructed from metal that I had laying around and the jack came from a 16 ton pipe bender and has a longer stroke - 230mm - than normal, great for a press.

The Q2 bikes were a follow on from the QL for people who wanted a flash bike. It featured a similar front end to the QL but had a shorter wheelbase with single sided swing-arm. The body design was a result of a design competition run by Superbike magazine which was won by Dan Parry-Williams.

Race bike chassis

Pix. of chassis and complete race bikes that I built. Of the first 5 chassis that I built 4 were for my own race bikes and 1 for my road BMW, although that was raced on a few occasions. Those were made between the early 1960's and 1972. The other chassis were made as a business for individual riders or teams and run from 1973.

These are various road chassis mostly built between 1975 and the early 1980s. These were made as a business and were all built to order for specific clients. See the QL and Q2 folders for pix. of those, which were the last types that I built.

Sidecars

Although I am totally incapable of successfully driving a sidecar without crashing, and that's on the road not even racing, I did design and build two sidecars for racing which were both very successful in the UK back in the 1970s.

Rt. angle Dellorto carb. conversion

These pix show the work necessary to modify a Dellorto carb. to work with "off the shelf" 90 deg float chamber conversions, which allow down draft orientation of side draft carbs.

The QL was a bike built for my own use. I wanted lightweight, good handling, better aerodynamics and comfort with built-in covered luggage space big enough to store a full face helmet. The bike attracted considerable publicity and others asked me to make more. About 6 or 7 were eventually built.

Aermacchi chassis

Tony Foale bought an ex GP Aermacchi in a Drixton frame but found it way too heavy. So he made his own chassis for it in 1971. This was made in a bedroom. In 2009 another was made for classic racing but with much better facilities.
