Friesland province has 600 000 inhabitants of which 40-50 % lives in the rural areas. The rural policy is perhaps the strongest in the Netherlands. The budget for rural projects in general is 1 million euro/year, for community centers also 1 million/year and for small businesses also 1 million/year.
Sneek is the second biggest town in Friesland with about 33 000 inhabitants.

Former castle in Bears. Castle built in the 16th century, 1:1 model in 1998.
Development of the Reduzum village begun with a village plan "Reduzum 2000". Peter is chairman of the village council.
The village built its wind turbine that produces one third of the electricity for its 1 100 inhabitants. "And we go for a bigger one, to generate all the electricity we need".
"What did we achieve in Reduzum? We planted trees and we gave Reduzum a good name in the press. We built 28 new houses, a harbor, a skating-rink, rebuilt our canteen and enlarged the kindergarten. We built a connection between two lakes. We restored our church..."
The municipality built a new school in Reduzum and the village association could finance a second floor for the school. The school will stay because in The Netherlands schools are closed down only when they have less than 23 pupils.
