Notice the desk size - there was more
Notice the typewriter - before the age of computers.
Notice the lecturn - one of the principals had this especially made so that the measurements would permit me to lean on it at the proper height(because of my spinal problems)
the desktop is deceiving because it was usually far more cluttered.
My room open onto the drive which went up to the gym area. The door was to my left. I was standing behind the desk one day - closer to the door- when I looked up and saw a gun pointed at me from a car slowly driving by down from the gym area. I saw the trigger being pulled and you can bet I was hitting the floor. I looked up and saw a stream of water. Then I am angry(pissed off) because papers and books got wet. At the time this happened the community was the wealthiest WASP community in the San Gabriel Valley.
Just another day in the life of a teacher.
