"OOOOPS!!!!!"
Idris Welch
"THE OTHER THING IS THAT NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHOIS THE FASTEST IN CROSSING THE ATLANTIC, AS THE NUKES ON ALL NAVIES WHOM HAVE THEM WONT TELL THE OTHER SIDE WHAT SPEED THEIR NUCLEAR SUBMARINES DO THE CROSSING IN.

PERSONALLY I KNOW WHAT SPEED THE TWO H2O SUBS THAT BRITAIN DID THE TRIALS ON WHEN THE AMERICANS TRIED OUT THE NUKES, THE IDEA WAS THAT BOTH OF THE FRIENDLY FORCES WOULD TRY AND DO EVERYTHING WITH THEM, THEN AFTER THE TRIALS THEY BOTH WOULD SWAP THE DETAILS AND PITFALLS OF THE SUBS THEY WERE TRIALLING.. BRITAIN GAVE ALL THE SECRETS ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE TWO HYDROGEN FUELLED SUBS, UNFORTUNATELY THEUSNAVY RENAGED ON THE DEAL AND WOULDN'T TELL BRITAIN ANYTHING ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE HYDROGEN SUBS.
ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT I WAS ON THE RANGE RECORDER WHEN WE PICKED UP THE EXCALIBER I THINK IT WAS AND SHE WAS COMING SLOWLY STRAIGHT INTO OUR BOWS, JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO SING OUT INSTANT ECHOES, SHE ABOUT TURNED AND MY RANGE RECORDER I HAD IT JAMBED OPEN AT 39 KNOTS AND THE H2O SUB JUST KEPT OPENING FROM US, (WHILE WE WERE DOING ROUGHLY 27 KNOTS), SO THAT WILL GIVE YOU SOME IDEA OF THE SPEED THAT THE SUB WAS CAPABLE OF DOING.
SO MY FRIEND THAT IS ONE VESSEL THAT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THE BLUE RIBBAND FROM THE HOLDER. ALSO!!!! HOW CAN YOU BUY A RIBBAND FROM THE HOLDER, IF SOMEONE ELSE BEATS IT, IT IS LIKE AN AWARD TO BE HELD IN PERPITUETY, SO WHO EVER "BOUGHT IT" IS DEFEATING THE SPORTING ASPECT OF IT.

THIS WAS OVER 50 YEARS AGO, SO I AM NOT BREAKING ANY SECRET ACT, I WAS IN THE 3RD SUBMARINE SQUADRON AT THE TIME.

"It's now 2012 and nobody, not even matelots both merchant and war hardened matelots, as far as I am led to believe give a toss as to who holds the "BLUE RIBBAND" FOR THE FASTEST CROSSING OF THE ATLANTIC.
TO WIT. IT WAS TAKEN FROM THEM OR AT LEAST THE TERM FASTEST CROSSING OF THE ATLANTIC, BY A TEAM OF BOOTNECKS ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO, WHEN EXACTLY I CANNOT REMEMBER , BUT THE BOOTNECKS (ROYAL MARINES BRITISH NAVY) DID THE CROSSING IN A GOOD DEAL FASTER THAN THE USS AMERICA DID IT IN. SO THE INTEREST OF THE BLUE RIBBAND CONTEST, SHOWS NO INTEREST TO THIS SIDE OF THE POND."
Idris Welch
"I feel that I must add some feeling of shock about the way the USS UNITED STATES, has been uterly neglected by who, or which part of the forces was supposed to keep it as a memento, of when she was the fastest ship to cross the "POND" (Atlantic) Never mind the upper deck being rusty or needing a good repaint, what does our brothers of the sea :"FEEL" when they see just how rotten her hull is infact, one or more of the cabins must have no decking lef,t way back aft on the Starboard quarter, I should really say what a matelot would say after seeing it, I'd fire with both barrels as!!!!!!!
It really is a disgrace to the nation. Fire one less missile from a sub only one one day and the money for the maintenance ould be there. I know that some vandals set fire to part of it, but put the "CUTTY SARK" alongside it and just see the difference in "PRIDE", and it was a commercial ship as well, or the Victory, the oldest ship still in "COMMISSION IN THE ROYAL NAVY" that is really pride to see that or to join one of the tours with an ex chief or ex P.O. who knows every story of her since she was first growing in an OAK FOREST in The SOUTH of ENGLAND."
Idris Welch
"No. These are the remainders of the 'America'. The 'United States', which, by the way, still holds the Blue Ribbon, lies in Philadelphia, and was bought by the 'SS United States Conservancy' in 2011 to make it a national maritime monument."

"During the war HMAS Adelaide was involved in the successful efforts to secure the colony of New Caledonia for Free France, was present during the Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour, and intercepted the German blockade runner Ramses which she then sunk off the coast of Australia.
The cruiser was decommissioned in 1946 and broken up for scrap in 1949 in Australia."
Stephen Diver
"HMAS Adelaide served with the Royal Navy's Special Service Squadron during 1924 and 1925 and was involved in the 1927 Malaita massacre.
She was decommissioned in 1928 but was modernised and returned to service just before World War II began."
Stephen Diver
"HMAS Adelaide was a Town class light cruiser of the RAN named after Adelaide the capital city of South Australia.
Laid down in 1915 wartime shortages and design modifications meant the ship was not completed until 1922, earning her the nickname "HMAS Longdelayed"."

"Wartime Paintwork so its HMAS Adelaide 1940-1945 period when shew as doing the large brunt of the Convoy Escort Work around Australia - esp after HMAS Sydney was sunk in 1941, HMAS Perth in 1942 and HMAS Hobart was Crippled and in drydock after a Torpedo hit almost blew her stern off in 1943."
Stephen Diver
"HMAS Perth at speed 1942 in the waters off Australia during her Convoy Escort Period after she returned from the Med but before she was sent to the NEI area.
The Aircraft is a Walrus MK I as against the more usual Seagull MK V which she carried before her aircraft was shot down and replaced by a RN FAA Airframe on 'long term loan'."

"On seven voyages HMAS Sydney carried four Westland Wessex helicopters for antisubmarine surveillance sourced from 725 FAA RAN or 817 FAA RAN Squadron (S).
While undergoing conversion into a troop transport the ability to operate aircraft was removed from HMAS Sydney.
However on seven of the troopship's twenty five voyages to Vietnam she carried a flight of four Wessex helicopters and Occasionally a 9 RAAF Sqd Huey Gunship Flight was also carried."
