"During the war HMAS Adelaide was involved in the successful efforts to secure the colony of New Caledonia for Free France, was present during the Japanese midget submarine attack on Sydney Harbour, and intercepted the German blockade runner Ramses which she then sunk off the coast of Australia.
The cruiser was decommissioned in 1946 and broken up for scrap in 1949 in Australia."
Stephen Diver
"HMAS Adelaide served with the Royal Navy's Special Service Squadron during 1924 and 1925 and was involved in the 1927 Malaita massacre.
She was decommissioned in 1928 but was modernised and returned to service just before World War II began."
Stephen Diver
"HMAS Adelaide was a Town class light cruiser of the RAN named after Adelaide the capital city of South Australia.
Laid down in 1915 wartime shortages and design modifications meant the ship was not completed until 1922, earning her the nickname "HMAS Longdelayed"."
Stephen Diver
"Wartime Paintwork so its HMAS Adelaide 1940-1945 period when shew as doing the large brunt of the Convoy Escort Work around Australia - esp after HMAS Sydney was sunk in 1941, HMAS Perth in 1942 and HMAS Hobart was Crippled and in drydock after a Torpedo hit almost blew her stern off in 1943."
Stephen Diver
"HMAS Perth at speed 1942 in the waters off Australia during her Convoy Escort Period after she returned from the Med but before she was sent to the NEI area.
The Aircraft is a Walrus MK I as against the more usual Seagull MK V which she carried before her aircraft was shot down and replaced by a RN FAA Airframe on 'long term loan'."

"1941 Med."

"On seven voyages HMAS Sydney carried four Westland Wessex helicopters for antisubmarine surveillance sourced from 725 FAA RAN or 817 FAA RAN Squadron (S).
While undergoing conversion into a troop transport the ability to operate aircraft was removed from HMAS Sydney.
However on seven of the troopship's twenty five voyages to Vietnam she carried a flight of four Wessex helicopters and Occasionally a 9 RAAF Sqd Huey Gunship Flight was also carried."
Stephen Diver
"If this is HMAS Sydney (and i have some doubts but i am not 100% either way so im not going to say its not at this time) this is during her Vietnam time."
Stephen Diver
"NOT HMAS Sydney - Sister Ship HMAS Melbourne flying off her ASW Gannet Aircraft to carry out an ASW Sweep in support of her already airborne CAP while carrying out a refuelling evolution with another ship.
HMAS Melbourne only operated this type off HMAS Melbourne as by then HMAS Sydney was off line as a carrier, the squadrons involved were 816/817 FAA RAN.
The type was in use by the RAN from 1956 to 1967 on board the carrier supported by Sea Venom Jet Fighters and Sycamore Helos for ASR Support Work."
Stephen Diver
"This is in fact the RAN River Class Destroyer Escort, which was in turn based on the RN Leander Class Design known as the Type 121 Class of Frigate.
This ship is HMAS Swan (1965-1996) (DE50) which was sunk as a SCUBA Diving Wreck of Western Australia in 1997."
Stephen Diver
"Well I cannot make out what else is on the white duster as well as the Union Jack, but there looks to be more that St georges cross and the Union Jack on it."
IDRIS WELCH
"yet again NOT HMAS Sydney - you really need to check the ships IDs before posting their picks. The picks are great don't get me wrong but to say its the wrong ship is ok if its me and i spot it but not so good for someone that doesn't and that's how mistakes in naming ships on line happen.
No Offence intended."
