The Vineland Estates' Sign. You'll see this as you pull into estate winery from Moyer Road.
As you drive into the parking lot you'll pass the St. Urban Vineyard to your right. Passed that you'll see the beautiful landmark stone tower that graces Vineland's labels on the left. The My WIne, My Way vines are behind the tower. You can get a peak at our vineyard in the bottom right-corner of this photo.
Here they are, rows of our Weis 21B clone Riesling for My Wine, My Way.
Here's a closer look at one of our rows of Riesling for My Wine, My Way. As you can see everything is tucked in neatly in the trellis wires. Brian Schmidt told me leaf growth is about six weeks ahead of schedule at this point.
Grape vines are lianas meaning they will always climb a support structure. The shoots are always reaching up and out trying to get as much sun as possible. Our block of vines is located just behind the stone tower and the winemaking operations at Vineland that you can see in the background.
Our Riesling is grafted on hardy SO4 root stock, which is native to North America and highly resistant to phylloxera. Note the clay loam soil our vines are sitting on. It should retain moisture nicely which will benefit our mature vines in the hotter months ahead.
Here's a closer look at one of our vines. In the bottom centre you can see the cane from one of our vines tied to the trellis in the Pendelbogen arched training system. The shoot is pushing out and upward capturing the sun's energy for ripeness just like the system is designed to encourage.
Here's a close-up of a grape bunch in inflorescence. Over the season these tiny berries will mature and develop into what will become our delicious Twenty Mile Bench, Niagara, VQA Riesling.
