This is Fort Funston. It sits on a high ridge along the coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. People go here to hang glide and to fly their radio controlled planes...
They go here to walk and run their dogs..
They go here to picnic and swim and enjoy the view..
That is Mussel Rock in the far distance to the left. It is the point where the San Andreas Fault leaves dry land and heads out to the Pacific Ocean. This is a magnificent view from high up on the ridge.
From up here, you see the path that leads down to the beach. Zoom in closer to see the people that are the size of ants.
Nice background for a posed shot.
Mel with Buddy, Jopen with Honey, and Evelyn with Precious.
I forgot the name of this flower. They come in two colors, yellow and lavender. They have thick, juicy, grasslike leaves..
and they carpet the sand, rock and soil high up in these cliffs.
Tia Luz, cozy with her cap, shades and sweater joins the cousins. This was on the last weekend of April and it was still quite cold.
Tiny precious refuses to give ground to a white giant, who looks at her bemusedly.
Posing by the viewdeck.
Zoom in closer and you'll see the white contrail of a jet high in the sky heading west, and a vintage light plane going in the other direction.
My turn at the deck.
"Well helloo.. Dolly..."
Zoom in here for interesting geological fun facts about this location.
Check this out to learn the basics of hang gliding and thermal lifts.
Gaze at the distance for a nonchalant pose, hehe.
The surf breaks among the rocks down below.
This walk leads down to Ocean Beach.
a better view of the Ocean Beach. This being the first "hot" day of late spring, there are not too many people on the sand yet as it is actually still a bit cold.. This beach gets a little jampacked during the really hot summer months. Zoom in to pick out a few bikini ladies sunbathing on the sand.
These rock islands lie a few meters from a restaurant called "The Cliff".
Mel is excited to go down to the beach. The Cliff Restaurant is behind her.
First shot on the beach.
Ahh.. the sand feels really good on bare feet. Behind me in the far distance is The Cliff Restaurant. Facing it on the water are the two rock islands.
Brrr.. but the water is cold!
Sitting down and enjoying the surf and sun is very relaxing
I sneaked this shot of a sun lover.
Then turned around because I really prefer watching the sea. hehe.
Mel balances the windmill on her palm. This windmill marks the entrance to the Golden Gate Park, where we went to next.
