There are works of some 470 Artists with named folders. Each folder from 5 to 700 works by each (800+ Sargents, 600+ Goyas, 500 Toulouse-Lautrecs, 400+ Cezannes, 300+ each of Rembrandt, Picasso & Sorolla, &c, plus 150+ each by Bouguereau, Degas, Hals, Manet, Michelangelo, Monet, Rubens, Schiele, Van Dyck, Van Gogh, Velasquez & Wyeth. There are 1 - 4 each by 250+ Other Artists & about 1,000 ancient & modern works labeled Anonymous. In addition, there are (on line only) albums with a few hundred examples from each century from xv to xx. Each individual album contains very abbreviated biographical data on the Artist as well as (usually) a Wikipedia reference for further information. Title 1

These are photos from places we have traveled to - mostly together (since 1980) but occasionally separately. Bob was in Japan working for the Unitarian Universalist Assn (not as a missionary, but as a liaison and teacher) in 1964-65, and Wendy has sometimes traveled with her French and Spanish students or with ("KEYS") friends. The vast majority of the photos are our own, but some are by Sandee Spahr and a few other friends, and a few I have borrowed from on-line sources to replace some of mine lost to mildew over the years.

These are photos from our SmarTours "Best of Asia" excursion in November of 2009. Bali is the center & last bastion of Hinduism in Indonesia. Although November is the end of the long annual dry spell (after Spring) everything was still lush & green because water is plentiful & irrigation common.

At the end of our nearly month-long swing through South America via Avianca over the holiday period of 1989-90, we stopped for a few days on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro -- plus one town in the middle of the Amazon jungles to refuel on our way back to Bogota.

Our visit to China in 1987 & to Hong Kong then, in 1965, & in 2009. Hong Kong had some absolutely exquisite vistas before the smog rolled in! (I've added a few photos from on-line because many of my earlier slides were lost to mildew.)

0 Colombia 1989f

In 1989-90 Wendy was awarded a Fulbright exchange with an English teacher in Bogota, Colombia, who took Wendy's Spanish classes in Oak Ridge for a year while Wendy taught hers. I managed to get away for 4 months of the time to join her there and - during her month-long Christmas vacation - travel to 5 other South American countries: Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Brazil. Despite the country's narco-terrorism (which didn't really get bad until after she was there, and which never seemed personally threatening to either of us - although there were places we could not go, such as Medellin) we had a great time there. The people are wonderful - very positive and upbeat despite their political problems.

0 Costa Rica 1988

In 1988 we vacationed in Costa Rica. Wendy was teaching her Spanish students from a book about solving a mystery there. There were sights to see and places to visit. I was less than enthuiastic, but loved it -- from the Pacific beaches to the active volcano called Poas, and its lush jungles surrounding, to Limon, on the Caribbean. My biggest suprise was the Jungle Train -- now defunct -- which takes much longer to cross the country than the bus. So we took the bus to Limon and the the train back. I brought along books and a pint of Scotch in case I really got bored. I never touched the Scotch. Among the adventures was getting de-railed in the middle of nowhere. We watched down the track for the rescuing crane. No way! Not in Costa Rica. After awhile two guys arrived, pumping a hand-car and carrying shovels. Instead of lifting the locomotive, they simply moved the track!

We live in Connecticut now; Wendy was born and raised here. I first came in 1959 to be minister of the Westport Unitarian Church, and that's where Wendy and I met. Then we moved to Knoxville, TN, for almost a decade before coming back into semi- and then full retirement - Wendy teaching at Bunnel High in Stratford, and I running a small graphics business and then also serving a small congregation in Madison. We both retired in 2000.

0 Ecuador 1989

Visit to Quito for a few days at the beginning of our Avianca swing around South America for Wendy's month-long Christmas vacation in 1989-90. Interestingly, we left Bogota for Quito on the very day the US invaded Granada -- not an action we supported personally, and something quite unpopular in upper South America. So we arrived in Quito to anti-US demonstrations and tear-gas. As we watched the demonstration outside the US Embassy from the safety of our hotel room. I remember commenting to Wendy that at home I'd be down there demonstrating with them, but here, if I went down I'd be stoned before they knew which side I was on.

This is the bulk of my digital art collection, grouped by individual artist -- both painters and sculptors. My collection -- almost 500 albums -- is quite eclectic, but it is slanted it toward my own preferences. I am not a fan of abstract art, but I have tried to include some of what I consider the best instances of a genre. Fair warning to teachers and parents: nothing here I regard as pornogarphy, but you may. My criterion has been an artistic one, not necessarily what even I consider to be good taste or morality. I have posted my collection on-line specifically and exclusively for educational purposes, for teachers and students, and for personal enjoyment. Meeting Michelangelo, SA was asked to draw a weeping boy; Sofonisba drew 'Child bitten by a crab' & drew praise & was informally trained by him; 1559-78 to Spain as a court painter & lady-in-waiting to new Queen, Elisabeth of Valois, Philip II’s 3rd wife. Married in 1571 (with dowry from Philip II) &, widowed, again in 1580.
