'The Sycamore Sea'. 10 mm thick solid sycamore bonded to an 18mm plywood base over joists. The border is of solid tulipwood cross banding with wenge detail strip. Costly.
The black walls are Photosphop additions to disguise the ugliness of unfinished walls.
This is the half landing which we carried out in sycamore strip. It would have looked too 'busy' in Sycamore Sea' design and, besides would have taken from the value of the main floor which is another flight of stairs higher up.
The half landing again. I was trying to capture some of the lovely 'movement' in the sycamore. In the reality of the timber you 'see into' the timber. It has a rumpled silk appearance as if not actually flat yet is completely flat and smooth.
