"Nice fast water through the canyon but easy going. The water is pretty clean and few sign of people other than around villages."

"There are a couple of unique rock formations in a tight bend of the river. This 3 day paddle is nice on its own. Fly back from Bettles to Coldfoot. Or continue on down the Koyukuk to Allakaket or even to the Yukon. very nice with lots of wildlife and no other paddlers and few power boats."

"About half way down to bettles the river goes through a nice canyon area called Tramway Bar. There is recent mining activity. There is a little class 2 going through here and very pretty."

"We drove to Coldfoot and floated down the Middle Fork of the Koyukuk to start this trip. There was a fire burning just to the south. It's about 50 miles down to Bettles where we caught a plane with Brooks Range Aviation up to Gadeke Lake to start down the Alatna River."
