Morton Island with Raeffe and friends - Irish Sailor "Flicker" emigrated from Ireland to Sydney, over 3 decades ago when he was 20 yrs old. He told me that he was on the 10 quid/pound program and that it was the best 10 pounds he'd ever spent. Most likely he is alive because of it. He sailed in the Hobart Race...I asked him if he was ever scared while sailing in it (the weather was fierce and killed a few sailors)...He replied: "No....we saw it coming and sailed it the best that we could." Interesting metaphor for what happens in life. It is really our choice not only to SURVIVE but to give it our BEST. NO FEAR! No worries mate!
My daughter Amber Nuechterlein is sitting next to me. You can only see my legs in this shot (taken in Phuket, Thailand 1997). Wanida aka Momma Duck is in the foreground. In the background is Her Majesty's Yacht Britannia, the 83rd Royal Yacht; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMY_Britannia "She is the 2nd Royal yacht to bear the name, the first being the famous racing cutter built for Edward, Prince of Wales in 1893. She is now permanently moored as an exhibition ship at Ocean Terminal, Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland. The Royal Yacht's last foreign mission was to convey the last British governor of Hong Kong; Chris Patten (now the The Lord Patten of Barnes) and The Prince of Wales, away from Hong Kong after the handover of the British colony to the People's Republic of China on 1 July 1997. Britannia was decommissioned on 11 December 1997."

Stormvogel: http://www.stormvogel.net/home.html "Stormvogel was not only designed to be raced but to be cruised in comfort, which is what she has been doing for the past thirty years. Traveling worldwide, she has also managed to race competitively where ever she has been. Whilst in Australia she also made her movie debut in the Nicole Kidman movie, Dead Calm."
