Begin northbound LA 3046 (Causeway Boulevard). The highway is signed along northbound somewhat, which is better than not at all along southbound.
This viaduct carries Causeway Boulevard all the way past US 61 (Airline Drive) and LA 611-9 (Metairie Road). This is still LA 3046.
Below, the Earhart Expressway (LA 3139, Planned Interstate 310) passes underneath Causeway Boulevard without intersecting with it. This is rumored to be slated to be remedied in the coming years.
US 61 (Airline Drive) passes underneath Causeway Boulevard here. This exact point marks the END! of LA 3046 northbound.
Now designation-less, Causeway Boulevard travels northward toward I-10.
Along the service road, some JPSO are up to something. I didn't stop to ask them what it was about.
Causeway Boulevard northbound encounters Interstate 10 at an antiquated and VERY tight cloverleaf interchange.
Traffic bound for westbound I-10 departs to the right. These signs appear to date back to the 1980's, if not earlier.
Just after the interchange with I-10, northbound Causeway encounters another one with Veterans Memorial Boulevard (known here as simply “Veterans'” or “Vets”)
Here is the old toll plaza for northbound as the Causeway begins and Causeway Boulevard ENDS!
Causeway Boulevard is the most heavily-traveled north-south roadways in Metairie. It connects to Interstate 10, US 61 (Airline Drive) and US 90 (Jefferson Highway), among other major roadways. At this point, it has no highway designation of its own.
Two through lanes of Causeway Blvd. travel high over Veterans Memorial Boulevard, while two other lanes remain at ground-level to intersect “Vets”.
A cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 10 looms ahead. Traffic merging in from Vets and moving right to reach the Interstate can make for one hell of a tangle at almost any time during the day.
From left: I-10 East - New Orleans - Next Right, I-10 West - Baton Rouge - (arrow). Needless to say, traffic bound for westbound I-10 departs here.
Traffic from I-10 westbound merges onto Causeway Boulevard southbound, as traffic looks to depart to I-10 eastbound. This set of loop ramps makes for a weaving nightmare. Thankfully, the interchange is set to be reconfigured within a few years. US 61 (Airline Drive) looms 1.5 miles ahead.
Causeway Blvd. departs the interchange with I-10. The traffic usually continues to be a nightmare all the way south to Airline.
Just behind this vantage, traffic departs Causeway Blvd southbound to reach Metairie Road (LA 611-9). Ahead, the overpassing and rotary interchange with Airline Drive (US 61).
Traffic departs to US 61 on the right. Over Airline, Causeway Boulevard also gains the designation of LA 3046.
Begin LA 3046 southbound at US 61 (Airline Drive). This designation only travels as far south as US 90 (Jefferson Highway), and is not signed at all along southbound.
After traveling down the viaduct, we encounter US 90 (Jefferson Highway) ahead. This intersection was recently reconstructed to add a flyover from eastbound US 90 to northbound LA 3046 (Causeway Boulevard).
END! LA 3046 southbound. Causeway Boulevard still travels another couple of blocks to the south.
END! Causeway Boulevard southbound here at the intersection with LA 611-1 (River Road). Past the levee is the Mississippi River.
