Sally's XO (58-59) Commander Edward Bergstrom
This ligther was a gift to Mrs Marge Bergstrom in 1958, wife of Sally's XO, (58-59) Commander Edward Bergstrom.
For years it was thought the only existing photograph of Sally’s 1st Commanding Officer, Doyle G. Donahoe, was the one seen in the Sally Photo Gallery. Not any longer, snapped roughly 66 years ago by Sally Sailor, Arden Hargreaves, it’s thought he was the ships unofficial photographer, here is a picture of Capt. Donahoe, along with the Executive Officer and an unknown Boatswain Mate Chief, celebrating at what may have been Sally’s christening party.
What’s a party without music. Strike up the band, boys. That’s right, the Salisbury Sound band. Check out the lettering on the bass drum. Who would’ve known, a baseball and football team and a Band. The Sally had it all. My guess is they were practicing for the Christening ceremonies of the ship. By the way, the Bass Drummer, that's Willard Warford. As informed by his son, Robert.
Hup, two, three, four. Here’s Sally’s 1st crew marching in review. Check out the Salisbury Sound flag waving next to Old Glory. Again, maybe it’s part of the commissioning ceremonies held on the 26th of November, 1945
Under the watchful coaching of Sally's XO, circa 1950, Sally crew members tone their athletic prowess for an upcoming baseball game against maybe a rival Seaplane Tender.

Can someone share with us why these Sally Sailors are eating in a Quonset hut and not on the ship?
I think it's a change of Command

These great pictures of downtown Oak Harbor have been made possible by the efforts of CDR Scott Hornung and the Wallie V Funk collection of photographs at the Center of Pacfic Nortwest Studies, Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.
In OaK Harbor, for those Sally Sailors not old enough experience all the OHT had to offer, we had the Pastime Cafe and the Pool Hall next door. A completely different meaning to the phrase, having Java
