Bus in Afghanistan Overland trip to Nepal. Started out with the Magic Bus from Amsterdam to Athens, took the ferry to the Greek Islands and then to Istanbul, Turkey. Train across Turkey to the Iranian border. Bus to Teheran, Mashhad and into Herat, Afghanistan. Bus ride via Kandahar to Kabul, Bus ride to Bamian, then on horseback 6 days to Band I Amir Lakes. Back to Kabul on top of a bus for 14 h., then by bus to Jalalabad, train to Lahore, Pakistan, Amritsar India, Golden Temple. On to New Dehli. Train to Patna for 3 days, cross the Ganges by ferry. Bus to Katmandu, Nepal, followed by a 6 week hike from outside Katmandu to Tengboche Monastery near Everest base camp where I stayed with the monks for a week. Hike back to Namche Bazar, Lukla, fly out to Kathmandu, Dehli and be back in Europe 24 h. later. I was 22.
