This first batch was taken at Pismo Beach. Steve and I went there to go dune-buggying. Unfortunately it was too much for me to stomach and I had to bail.
The next few were taken at a softball game in Morrow Bay. It was just some office-league, but it was on behind our motel so we decided to check it out.
This is Morrow Rock by night, there's some better shots in a second.
This is the first of a few nature shots I took.
The entrance to Hearst Castle's main tour.
This tapestry and all the other artworks you've seen were not done specially for castle. All of these pieces were acquired/pillaged from Europe. The piece above is depicting the Battle of Agincourt.
The indoor pool at Hearst Castle.
Pimped, he had a freaking diving board!
This lot is from the drive we took up the Pacific Coast.
The only photo I took in Monterey. It was a most forgettable town.
This next few are from Alcatraz and the ferry there. It's definitely worth a look if you're ever in the area.
The Rock.
The sign says: WARNING Persons procuring or concealing escape of prisoners are subject to prosecution and imprisonment.
The graffiti on the wall is from the 'Indian Occupation' of Alcatraz.
The morgue.
Here I am outside solitary confinement.
Here's Steve inside solitary confinement.
These next few show places that were important in the battle of Alcatraz. Up above is the Gun Gallery where prisoners climbed up and disarmed guards.
These are marks from the shelling of Alcatraz during the battle.
The fake head is in a cell used by one of three prisoners who escaped in 1962. They used the heads to conceal their absence.
They dug out the grate behind them get out of their cells.
They then used this area behind their cells to get out of the prison and into the water. They were never seen again.
Back on dry land, here's some pics of San Francisco proper.
A cable car.
Vesuvio, the pub where the Beat Poets hung out.
Francis Ford Coppola's office.
Students checking out societies and organisations at the University of California campus in Berkeley.
The tower at the Berkeley campus.
These next few are views from that tower.
Here's a bell inside the tower.
No prizes for guessing where the next few were taken.
The Infineon Raceway in Sonoma.
Radio controlled cars used for miniature drifting.
Folks getting ready for drifting.
This 'cop car' is actually used for racing.
The press getting in position for the drifting.
This isn't blurred, that's just a whole load of smoke.
Darren McNamara, the sole Irish competitor in the drifting.
I just thought the smoke looked cool beside this cone.
All the white t-shirts weren't part of a fashion statement. One of the teams was giving them out for free.
Look to the right of the smoke. Yup, that car's still there.
That's a nice amount of smoke.
One of the staff at the drifting poses with the winner's trophy.
Note how the middle cup is a little wonky. Doh!
The crowd is getting excited, mainly because people are firing t-shirts at them.
This photo is best in max size. I like the contrast in appearance between the two photographers in the middle of the shot.
The USS Hornet.
Inside CIC.
This was the first of two pics in the pilots briefing room.
As the sign to the right of the shot shows, this is McAfee Coliseum. We went here to watch the Oakland A's take on the Texas Rangers.
Next door is the Oracle Arena, home of the Golden State Warriors of the NBA.
The view from our seats.
The A's players celebrate. They won 7-4 thanks to Aaron Cunningham's 3 run homer in the 8th inning. It was Cunningham's first ever home run.
