A&S competition winner scrolls... I drew the template then used it to trace the other scrolls, adding appropriate pictures in the open spaces. It was a fun project with several artists helping me paint.

Funnily... I won this one... it's hanging on my wall.
I don't remember a thing about this one.... but it's very early as I'm still using that "parchment" paper for calligraphy
The beginning of an ambitious, misdirected project in the very early days... thought I would make a book, but theme it with horses... did several pages, then stopped. When I found it again I didn't bother to continue for many different reasons.

I found new paper! this is a letter of introduction for a squire of Sir Axel's who was moving to a new kingdom.

The bottom, I know I have some sort of program to let me piece this together, but, I"m lazy, and don't want to.
My "practice" attempt at gold leaf before moving on to scrolls. To this day I am still VERY proud of the painting and white work in this one.
I remember being very proud of this one... it was a first in using real gold leaf... well, very low grade gold... but still...
This piece was worked on very early, but hung around for a while before it was actually finished with arms and miniature in the capital.

Perry's order of the cloven fruit... an unofficial award at the time that was given out by the ladies of the realm, hence the interesting signatures. Lord Lyric is shown in the border plying his art, with me being the recipient of the kiss in the lower left hand corner. The cat in the capital is Harley, his beloved curmudgeon cat.

My hubby's AoA... in the border you will find the things he enjoyed at the time, such as brewing and dancing, you will also find him and me having a cuddle at the bottom and then me on my beloved Pieper sporting a heraldic banner on the right.

This is my lost scroll. Done for a laurelling it went into the mail in Italy and never came out the other side. I stopped doing scrolls for a while then, totally disheartened and the only way to get a scroll anywhere from my location was the post.
This is gold leaf on stained bristol vellum. The stain is from period pigments given to me at a laurel's prize tourney. This was fun!

I remember enjoying this one with it's bold simplicity, but couldn't tell you who it was for
I had ambitious ideas for the miniature at the top, but ran out of time and panicked... wound up with a bunch of hills instead... but, still, on too horrible
This one was FUN! Based on nordic rune stones I designed and painted then sent it off to the calligrapher who had fun putting the text of the scroll along all the curly cues and such!

Playing around with one of the paint programs I hit "emboss"... now it really looks like a rune stone! Neat!... and boy doesn't it look phallic in this one... or is it just me?
From my time in the Outlands... didn't know one person I did a scroll for, but, got some good ones I think.

For some reason I didn't scan or save the bottom of this scroll... there is more of the blue carpet pattern at the bottom as well... I really was very pleased with this one, which made all the books I bought from Turkey worth while!
This was done for a member of WetCanvas for a Secret Santa gift exchange one year. Sadly I never received my gift, a lovely little painting of some beautiful roses.

Illuminated text of the lyrics to the theme to Star Trek the original series... yes, there really are words... bad, bad poetry... but words. This was done for my husband on our anniversary... we have an agreement that anniversary gifts are handmade, and can take no longer than two weeks to produce... it's fun and challenging! I got engraved glasses that year!
A fun bit of frill... weirdly, the text reads ACROSS the column bar... don't ask me why...
I've been wanting to tackle this busy, German style for a while... this was fun, I'm going to have to do it again!
Another Flemish... done for the Outlands kingdom A&S competition. I think it is a crowning piece for me. I was very proud of it and got many comments and encouragements.... one from a Laurel who challenged me to compose my own.
Made in the final hours before awarding, this was done as a companion to the previous as Baronial scrolls. For something that took me less than 20 hours, I'm rather pleased.

From that same book, but done earlier... the scroll that gave me the idea, actually... I love this little hare and his hound!
The Green Man... This scroll was 4 years in the making. Started in England, the gesso for the gold leaf was laid, then had to be set aside for the move to New Mexico... where it dried to the point of being unstickable, even after numerous applications of size... I put it away for later... now back in England I got the stuff sticky again, although I resorted to industrial strength glue, and finished it off, for a special lady. I'm very pleased with the "green" man above the capital.
This is a first attempt at painting on gold... talk about tricky... the flowers are so small I had to use super serious magnifying glasses, and then had to ask other people to look at them with the naked eye to see if they looked alright as I could not focus on them well enough... getting old, my arms are shrinking...

make all the black gold and then stain purple and you have the finished piece, which I hated and didn't scan or photograph... stupid anal retentive perfectionist.
