Here is the underside. This is clearly a 8 way switch that connects the common terminals to a selected pair

As the rotary switch is turned, this roller moves. There are detents in a metal disk which the roller drops into. The corrosion on the roller assembly is interesting. Why is there only corrosion on the shaft?
