Printz Ridge - 16jul10
Climbed the thee highpoints on the eastern end of Printz Ridge - Hauf Peak (8,807'), Mill Point West (8,650'), and Mill Point (8,467') - with Edna, an annual visitor from the state of New York. Because I misread the route points saved on my GPS, we got off course during the descent, lengthening our outing by 2.2 miles and adding an additional 600' of elevation gain. It proves the point that even a person with plenty of experience in the backcountry can make mistakes toward the end of a long tiring day. The key to avoiding disastrous results (as always) was to recognize the mistake as soon as possible and take corrective measures which had the least chance of producing even more problems. We did just that and survived intact, though completely worn out. --
