Lumber - Home brew

In August of 2004 Hurrican Gaston brought rain and high winds to central Virginia and Chesterfield County. In we had an Oak tree in our front yard taken down after a storm left it tilting over our roof. LongwoodGardens

On my 56th birthday, I requested a day at Longwood Gardens. My sister and mother took me and then we had dinner at my mother's condo. We had a close family friend, Becky Button to dinner with us. I took her back to Cokesbury. The orchid exhibition is just beginner at Longwood. They won't have all the orchids on display until mid March.

Wildflower Celebration at Mount Cuba

On Sunday April 26th, 2008 I attended the 4th Annual Wildflower Celebration at the former home of Lamont du Pont Copeland. www.mtcubacenter.org Most pictures were taken with an Olympus SP320 with some further away shots taken with an Olympus SP510UZ.

2008 0421 Well Repair April 21, 2008

On the weekend of April 19, 2008 I replaced the pipe to our well. The well is approximately 37 feet deep. The water level in the well varies from about 2 feet below ground level to about 15 feet below ground level depending upon the time of year. I also replaced the wiring to the well pump and the feed pipe that goes through the side of the well casing.

Ricky Mods his PS2

Ricky did another project. He ordered a special circuit for Christmas. He got a version that required a good bit of fine soldering. I helped get him started and cleaned up some of the pcb in the end, but Ricky did 95% of everything and all the planning. Tonight it worked!

Photovoltaics

These are various photovoltaic cells (solar electric cells) that I collected while working at the Institute of Energy Conversion of the University of Delaware, Solar Energy Systems a division of Shell Oil also in Newark, Delaware and AEG Telefunken's in Somerville, NJ a division of AEG's New Technology Division in Hamburg. These cells were collected from 1979 through 1986. Some rights reserved. Flowers Pretty

Pictures taken around our yard in Chesterfield, Virginia, Lakeville and Harwich Massachusetts, elsewhere in Virginia and in Rincon Puerto Rico. The earlier files from 2003 were taken with an Olympus 4000c which eventually became inoperable as a result of my repair efforts. I have been now taking pictures with an Olympus SP-320 which, although hard on batteries, has a wonderful macro capability. I have one picture to demonstrate this. It is a hand held shot of a 1 mm diameter plated thru hole. Some rights reserved. Elkton Painting

In 1978 I did some painting for Bruce Chernesky who was a local painting contractor and friend. This is a picture he took of me up at the top of an extension ladder that must be about 40 feet up with all three extensions. I have a can of nails and a hammer and I am repairing the wood trim before painting. I later painted the trim of the steeple. After that I stood on the top of the steeple with a long handled roller and pan and painted the tin roof red. Some rights reserved. 0 Levis History

These pictures are of the parents, children and grandchildren of Alfred Conrow Levis (14 February 1894 to 5 December 1973) and Katheryne Irene Crook Levis (8 February 1894 to 17 February 1969) both born in Baltimore, Maryland. They had three daughters, Grace Crook Levis Schwartz ( 31 December 1918 to 12 January 1998), Dorothy Imogene Levis Munroe (b. 23 December 1922) and her twin sister Katheryne Crook Levis McCormick (b. 23 December 1922).

Ricky's Tesla Coil

Ricky first built a tesla coil in November of 2004 when he was a student at Brook Road Academy. In November of 2007 he was commissioned to build a tesla coil for the physics department of Christopher Newport University. Most of these initial photos are of the November 2004 project. Kama Hospital and Orphanage

Sometime around 1984 to 1986 when I was working for AEG Telefunken, I helped Scott Velting, Grand Rapids, Michigan, design a photovoltaic system for a hospital and orphanage near Kama in the country then known as Ziare. The supplies for this system were sent by air through Bujumbura Burundi which was the nearest airport. This solar system and pump supplied power and water as well as light for the mission. The missionary at the time was Sam Vinton Sr. who has passed away after serving in Africa for over 75 years. The mission was supported by Grace Ministries International which still works in the D.R.Congo and other countries in Africa as well. During the unrest in the mid 1990's the hospital and orphanage were destroyed. These pictures were digitized from slides which Scott sent me around 1986.

2004 0517 Zurich

In May of 2004 I traveled to Zurich to attend an international sales meeting of my company. On the Sunday that we arrived, I met with Hans ERNI a friend from a former company and he gave me a tour of the lake ending with a great dinner. Zurich is a beautiful city.

2003 1004 Varde

David H. Doehlert June 21, 1929 to March 13, 1999. Dave always questioned authority and trusted in intuition and his heart. Dave was an engineer, a statistician, a sailor, an environmentalist, an activist, a teacher and a friend. I helped David complete the construction of his 38 foot ferro-cement cutter, Varde which crossed the Atlantic to Gibraltar and the Azores three times and is now in the San Juan Islands off Washington State's Pacific coast.

Sesame's Leap

These pictures are arranged from a series of photos that Darwin R. Crum took of Sesame Riverroads Walker at an industrial park in Schaumberg, Illinois around 1982 or 1983. Sesame loved the water and these pictures were not all from the same leap but were all taken at the same location on the same day. Sesame was from Sommit Kennels in Wisconsin which is owned by Susan Crum.

Ken Davis

In 1980 I lived with Ken and Judy Davis for a little a week. Ken Davis was the first artist to create large "floating balls". Ken was a civil engineer by training but an artist by choice. He studied sculpture in Italy. I helped him bring the marble for this project back from the Port of Baltimore by driving one of several trucks used for that task. When I stayed with Ken and Judy in their historic farm house on the Octorara Creek in Nottingham, Pennsylvania, my time was divided between helping Ken with his marble and working in his Vinyard. It was early summer in the Vinyard and the vines needed to be banded to the wire trellis. I would do that with a hand held tool that dispensed little plastic ties waiting for a call from Ken. Usually he needed more carborundum to be brough from the barn. Some rights reserved. 2001 0330 China

On Saturday March 31, I took Continental flight 99 B from Newark, NJ to Hong Kong. It was the first month that the trans-polar flights were available from EWR. It was a 15 hour and 55 minute flight. I returned on Sunday April 8th. I traveled from Hong Kong to Shenzhen, to Bejing, to Nanjing to Chengdu and back to Hong Kong. Tomkys Yeung and Shirley Chung set up my trip and Simon Wu patiently translated every sentence during my several CompacPCI presentations. All the better pictures in this set were taken by Simon Wu.
