We arrive at Las Palmas airport in pouring rain
Maspalomas, Playa del Ingles. To the right in the distance the beach has Sahara-like dunes
Because of cliffs, a series of steps raise the seafront pathway between the beaches of Playa del Ingles and San Agustin
Approaching San Agustin to the west the pathway descends again to sandy beaches. Our hotel, the Beverley Park, is the tall building to the left
We caught a local bus to Puerto Mogán
Puerto Mogán has a marina and working harbour. The Marina is bordered by bars and restaurants
The water in the marina is clear and unpolluted enough to be full of fish which swarm whenever a piece of bread is thrown to them
The buildings are whitewashed and picked out in brightly coloured paint
Joining the marina and harbour are short canals with beams too low for boats to pass but they have earned Puerto Mogán the nickname of “Little Venice”
Palm trees and bright flowers make Puerto Mogán a lovely place
It is one of the “must see” places for any visitor to Gran Canaria
A catamaran ferry with glass panels in the hull took us to nearby Puerto Rico
The road along this part of the coast is pretty spectacular! The railing is on the extreme edge of the cliff
At the bottom of the cliff the sea has worn caves into the rock
Spectacular scenery
Lunch in an Irish bar/restaurant
The beach close to our hotel
The local buses are a lot cheaper than taking an excursion!
Dusk finds us walking the Promenade to Playa del Ingles
Approaching Playa del Ingles
We had a meal at a steak grill on the cliffs
Feeling full and relaxed!
Playa de las Canteras, Las Palmas
Playa de las Canteras, Las Palmas - grey skies, clear seas and a sudden shaft of sunlight
British tall ships in the port at Las Palmas
The sea crashes onto the rocks at San Agustin
The wave demonstrates just how clear the sea is!
Heading back to the hotel from San Agustin
A surfer walks towards the water, trying to control the kite that will power his surfboard
After a few mishaps, he's into the water and being pulled along at a high speed!
He left the water a few times for a short flight...
As we left at the end of the week we were to arrive back at Manchester in thick fog!
