This illustration indicates which way and at what pressure air wants to go when it is warmer indoors than outdoors. This pressure increases with the temperature differential. Therefore leakage increases as temperature differentian increases. The colder it is the more heat you are leaking.
Just got off couch. This shows how much heat is pulled from your body by cold furnature.
My girlfriends attic spray foamed in 2004.
My attic required scaffold for higher areas
My home's attic - spray foamed in 2000, Dormer jump
Unico system in my attic
Unico on wall and energy recovery unit (ERV) on floor
Spray Foam equipment. High pressure pump and heated lines
Customers home Jan 8 2010, Almost a shame to cover with drywall.
Bedroom ceiling
This home will be COZY!
Basement rim/window
Gas line to grille, water lines to kitchen sink
No bugs coming in this corner
Simply LOOKS like a better built house
No air leaking in here!
HMMM! Looks like windwash has uncovered improper baffle installation and fair to poor batt installation.
$400,000 home in Mendon - vintage 2002. Friction installed batts are NOT a durable soffit baffle solution. Apparently batt was used in an attempt to create a cavity between soffit to the baffle instead of properly installing end baffles. Nearly worthless white stuff likely hid the shortcut if the inspector bother to climb into the attic - if the inspector even climbed up to look (doubtful - the attic hatch was a piece of fiberglass)
3rd bedroom ceiling
master east ceiling
top plate, windy corner/side of building - pre cellulose
Fixing wind wash
Removed baffle so vent won't roll back.
insulation well guarded from wind/cold
fan after cover foamed. shower can boxed upper left - 2nd can that would have been missed.
Pete's attic, all done. Cellulose to top of New baffles
Nice recommendation for spray foaming a basement “Rim” or Box joist. Pictures follow...
Crawl spaces lose a LOT of energy.
My buddy Craig's basement after being sprayed.
According to Dave, Craig had holes “big enough to throw a CAT through”
Same boiler after the basement was insulated
Another view
Covered the whole wall, window, and sump pump hose
This homeowner noticed an immediate moisture and odor reduction. His dehumidifier runs much less.
All reachable exterior walls were foamed
Open Cell overspray is significant - needs LOTS of prep
Airkrete is NOT a spray foam. It is a pre-expanded pumped in foam. This is best for enclosed cavities.
Airkrete has the consistancy of shaving cream which is perfect for pumping into cavities because it flows. It goes where the air goes.
There is a fair amount of pre and post installation work involved. But the comfort and energy results are huge.
My house having air krete installed.
after
plastic whole attic to protect from overspray.
Foam under manufactured housing - tired of freezing pipes.
spray foam attic
spray foam dormers
Spray foam Rim and crawl
Very nide job on crawl space by Tommy the Sundance Kid.
Foamed under floor
Nice!!
Loose knit sweater analogy - air pockets are speed bumps to heat loss, air flow wipes the speed bumps away.
Air sealing basements with closed cell spray foam can dramatically improve comfort and reduce energy costs.
