Thira
Thira or Theyyam or Theyyattam is a popular Hindu ritual form of worship of North Malabar in Kerala, India, predominant in Kasargod, Kannur Districts, Mananthavady Taluk of Wayanad and Vadakara & Koyilandy Taluks of Kozhikode of Kerala state. The performers of Theyyam belong to the indigenous tribal community, and have an important position in Theyyam. This is unique, since only in Kerala. People from the communities such as Vannan, Malayan, Mavilan, Velan, Koppalan, Pulayan etc. are the people who are performing thira. Also it is an accepted rule that these communities will perform certain thira. The persons who perform thira will take VRITHAM before playing the specific item.
