Trying to feed Cal lunch in a little churchyard in York. The difficulties feeding him here were a foreshadowing of a week's worth of chasing him around restaurants.
Walking through York to see the Minster.
York Minster- a large church of sorts.
Running through the nave.
Kind of a boring window, but that's because it's from before they had colored glass in England. So it's oldness makes up for the clearness.
Statues of all the kings from the Conqueror through Henry VI. This is Longshanks and his stupid son.
Constantine was proclaimed emperor near this spot!
Walking the city walls- Medieval built on a Roman base.
Back to the car through some narrow streets. Building standards were lax in the past.
The next day, Durham Cathedral. This is a Norman one. No pictures inside, but we both really liked this cathedral. Maybe our favorite.
Cool door knocker.
Lunch and petrol in the last town in England as you drive up the A1. I did not like this town.
In St Andrews now- while I was off at work, Sam and Cal poked around the town and the ruins of the cathedral.
At a colorful playground.
It was drizzly all day, but the sun peaked out after dinner.
The cathedral ruins.
Cal's birthday and NICU budy Rayan, up in Dundee.
The next day was sunny! I took the scenic route in to work.
The astronomy department is in this tiny tower.
This sign is funny. You can't deny that.
We stopped at the lake district on the way back, hoping to see some scenery.
It was, predictably, raining.
Forlorn sheep on top of a pass between valleys.
A quick break to let a screaming Calvin stretch his legs.
Just pissing down rain.
Testing out the waterproofs.
That squall had even Calvin worried- back to the car and the relative comfort of a Travelodge.
One last sight before hitting the motorway and heading home, Castlerigg stone circle.
Relaxing in the powerful English sun.
Exploring the stones that failed to inspire the Wordsworths.
Running deliriously through sheep poo filled fields.
Learning all about barbed wire.
