Seeing Nan off at the airport.
At the Orchard with Grandad.
He was a bit sick but mustered a smile.
Tea and scones at the Orchard.
Ducks!
Ely Cathedral, about 15 miles north of Cambridge.
It has an interesting octagonal tower.
St Patrick's day.
Road trip! First stop, Avebury. The weather was crap.
Avebury is a sprawling neolithic site, with the remnants of a huge stone circle.
A town took root in the middle of the old circle.
The next morning we went to Stonehenge. Four days a year (the equinoxes and solstices) for a couple of hours you're allowed to waltz past that sign and wander through the stones.
This attracts a lot of colorful (colourful) characters.
The guy on the left has antlers.
These people just finished blessing a huge bag of crystals.
Then on to Portsmouth, where we toured Nelson's flagship at the battle of Trafalgar, the Victory.
It's bristling with canons.
The middle gundeck, with very low beams. Calvin had to come out of the backpack for this tour.
Sam and Cal on deck.
The site where Nelson got shot.
The hold, where the water (300 tons) and beer (60 tons) were kept.
On the way back to the B&B, we stopped at Salisbury Cathedral. The tallest spire in Britain!
Nice interior, too.
This is "maybe the world's oldest working clock", from 1386.
They also have the best original copy of the Magna Carta, which we didn't get to see because someone was slow (Nick).
Cal burning off some energy in the B&B after being hauled around in a backpack or stroller all day.
On the way to drop off Grandma and Grandpa at Heathrow, we stopped by a burial mound near Avebury. In the background is Silbury hill, a man-made hill from the same period.
Calvin leads the way!
Hippies apparently spent the night here, leaving behind candles and banana peels and other trash. Lame-o.
