Lee, my host for the 2010 wine crush, in a small part of his garden
The property is huge, and has some very interesting structures. Just think of the possibilities of reclaimed wood and old windows here.
Some roses in the extensive gardens. Normally I wouldn't take photos in full sunlight like this, but they were so lovely.
One of the garden sheds with garlic drying, and dahlias in the front.
Pam, the hostess, converted the old carriage house to a full fiber studio. A loom, spinning wheel, work space galore. I am so envious of her space!
Part of the back garden near the house. The house was built in 1895 and is my dream house.
Some dahlias from the garden I collected for table decorations.
And the reason everyone showed up - lots of grapes! Cabernet, Syrah, and Zin
Lee is sharpening the curved knives we used to cut the grape bunches off the vines.
That's Daisy. She is lame in the front leg, but that hasn't slowed her down. She's a Good Dog.
This is Happy, a 4 month old standard poodle. And she is indeed very Happy.
Just one of the many rows of grapes, started on right after dawn.
Did I mention there were a LOT of grapes?
This is the crushing machine. From here, they go in to barrels to ferment. Bottling happens in a year or so.
Much to my surprise, the grapes were all picked by 11am. Very Very Tiring, but worth it to see it all done.
About 40-50 people showed up to help and have fun with the potluck later. We opened some of previous years' wines at the potluck. Much food was consumed, much wine drunk.
As we picked, we filled up these boxes. No Leaves Allowed.
Naked vines.
In our free time, Pam and I worked on painting an old wooden chest which started its life looking like a little black coffin. It was nasty. Pam did most of the work, and we finished it this evening. I have to get a picture of that tomorrow.
One of our supervisors.
Also on the property are over 35 species of apple tree.
The apple orchards smell awesome, especially this time of year.
And finally, a butterfly in the garden.
I loved some of the old tools and things located around the property.
You just never knew what you might find as you looked around.
Part of the orchards. A small part.
As I was getting set to leave, a few more photos HAD to be taken in the morning light.
That crazy chest Pam and I worked out turned out way better than either of us expected.
Yes, they even have a meal-time bell.
There is a pond, with frogs. Daisy was more interested in the water than the frogs.
This is Boots. A very, very old kitty who is very much enjoying his morning sun.
A wall of tools at the back of the house. I love every single one of them, but love them more all together.
I took several photos of this wall, but only thought two of them were worthy of keeping.
