My first glimpse of a glacier--ever--and the first glimpse of the majestic Perito Moreno glacier from our bus into Glaciers National Park in Argentina. We all jumped out to gawk.
All aboard! We took a boat to get closer to the glacier.
We're near. It looms.
The opposite shore.
The mini-trekker crew.
Crampons: the new statement footwear for ice-trekking.
Fasten up...
At the edge of the glacier, we explored a small cave--a hollowed out crevice separating the edge of the glacier from the rocky ground.
First steps.
Every footfall crunched.
A deep crevice to...?
Don't mess with the girl holding the icepick.
Walking downhill required a sort of half-squat to keep your balance on the ice. Tanveer's mastering it.
Ridge walking.
This looked dangerous...
Photographer on ice.
Just in case.
A surprise at the end of the trek--whiskey, made ice-cold by glacier ice!
Our guide, chipping ice for our drinks.
We were more than ready for a nip.
It still amazes me that--yes--it REALLY looked like this.
Proof. We were there.
Immensity.
The water surrounding the glacier is a cloudy, murky blue. Like glacier milk.
The blue color of the glacier is so vivid, the mountains look dull.
The balconies above Perito Moreno glacier.
Gracias! It was unforgettable.
