The sun rapidly sinks in the West. I asked Carl Gruber if he could hear the sizzle extinguishing the sun, but Don Gorman beat me to it. Oct. 6th 2006
This boat holds the usual suspects, John (Cat Nap) Gorman, Dan Gruber, Joe Gruber, Keith Hodgins, Michael, Gene Thompson---David Voykin, and Chris Snyder are actually on the other boat but took the photo op. Little Carl Gruber ended up being the star of the show.
David Voykin and Chris Snyder let the sunshine in and on them.
John Gorman's presentation on Hops was interesting but certainly doom and gloom about near and future production. Keith and John go way back, and John will go way back to Yakama, Washington after the weekend, Thanks for coming John, enjoy your gift mug!
Pieter Slier gets mugged by Keith Hodgins fo rhis presentation on Attenuated Total Reflection Spectroscopy methods for measuring dissolved CO2 concentration in beer. We were all fascinated by the crystal on the bottom of the device he brought for show and tell.
Keith Hodgins and Roy Johnson show the mug given to our technical speakers. Oct 6th 2006
Saturday morning we held our official meeting with three great technical meetings. David Voykin and Angelo Cayo share a gift that Dave gave to Angelo, It is a small hot pepper from his garden. Oct. 7th, 2006
Sally Kirkland finds it chilly in the hospitality room at first. Someone set it at 50 degrees. It did warm up once it filled with people.
Gary Evans has the right idea, relax your eyes and listen with a nice Yuengling in the hand.
Dennis Schmidt, public relationist excellanta rictus onum. He does fluff pieces for publication when he can. Ooops, never mind, he retired and stepped down. Surprised him too. Oct 7th 2006
Don Balas and Jim Diamantis arrive early; Jim looks over the seating, wanting to plant in front of the Georgia game. Too bad it turned out the way it did. Hope had to leave early; the beating/spanking was so bad. (The opinions expressed by the labelest do not reflect the opinions of the MBAA)
Joyce Lay and husband Rick, flip through a few photos while enjoying a beverage. October 7th 2007 When Joyce turned in her treasurers report saturday am, it came out to the whole dollar, forget the pennies. Attta girl.
Rajh Cromie made it just in time, John Houseman just returned with fried chicken for us all to enjoy.
The pelicans sit forlornly watch us go out to fish. They used to get the scraps of the returning boats, but federal law now restricts them being fed. They call this welfare reform.
Angelo and Marcy Cayo dig into the peanut butter crackers before heading out to sea. The sandwiches await us but our blood sugar is very low. We are on the Gulf Stream today.
All three of the technical speakers together with David, our MBAA President. Oct 7th 2006
The meeting is almost over and already the golfers are ready to bolt. MBAA Sand Key Sheraton Clearwater
The meeting format, is comfortable and accomodating to questions and answers after each technical session Oct 7th 2006
Yuengling disciples sit at the back of the room taking notes at the MBAA meeting on October 7th, 2006 Its good to see such large attencance from the Tampa facility.
George Kirkland, Marathoner, Corvette Owner, Terrible Golfer, wait a minute, who says?
Rajh Cromie is caught using Jim Diamantis reading glasses at the Columbia Restaurant. It gets us all eventually.
The last blip of the sun peaks out before it sets. Temperatures in the 70's make this a near perfect day.
Silouettes of MBAA members watch in awe. Author Author...
At the hospitality suite, we did experience a sunset together. From room 829 at the Sands Sheraton facing west of course
Remember I said David Voykin caught a fish, this is more proof he did. If you look at the top of the picture you can see the fish being skimmed across the top of the water.
That's Marcy Cayo, adding to her fish total again.
Oh, Dear Marcy again with another large fish. Everyone has caught one but David at this time. Marcy you need to show him how.
Oh, thank you "David, come here and I will give you some tips on how to catch a fish."
David's Reply? Ok, but wait until I am done with my ... ice tea.
At last, David is on deck to get his one ............little ........fish.
David Voykin, ok, close up. Act like you know what you are doing.
Angelo Cayo did catch a fish or two, but the only one I saw was this tangle fish.. say thats my fishing line tied up with yours.
Marcie brings in anther one. She and Chris Snyder carried us to the award for most fish caught. David sits idly behind her waiting for something good to happen.
The other boat originally tried to get a leg up on us by leaving first, they did have a faster and bigger one, but we had a better captain and instructor.
A lone dolphin came by in the distance, by the time I caught him he was quite a distance away, but here he is immortalized on film.
Marcy Cayo was another superstar of the waves as she reels in here first but not least mackerel
He is a fighter but he did not get away.
Our competition. See how they follow us to the fishing holes. Why those. fishermen! I think I hear John Gorman snoring.
Above the roar of the engine, I hear nothing but David and his animated sign language. Must be a fish story.
Why Daivd puts his pole in, Angelo and Marcy relax. They have already caught more than their share, no reason to fish out the ocean.
Marcy brings in another one, David is still trying on the other side. Even Chris is doing quite well. Our guide is throwing fish after fish in the cooler with ice.
Look at the size of that one!
Look how calm the gulf is today. We can see sharks, dophins, jelly fish and other marine life below not to mention the fishy people on board. The boat in the distance looks like a slow one to China. I swear when you look at the horizen you can see the curvature of the Earth.
Angelo did catch a blue fin, some kind of scrub fish, they just threw them back overboard.
Now, Angelo has his makerel.
Angelo Cayo, he says born and raised on the water. Originally from the area, just south of the Manatee River and did lots of salt water fishing. He says he misses it being landlocked in Cartersville GA
SMILE everyone
This was the sight when we first left to go fishing. The condos up and down this Clearwater Key are plentiful. This must make some insurance agent happy but anxious every storm season.
Bill Cromie catches a not so rare plastic skin fish. Not to be confused with the old shoe carp.
Dan and Carl Gruber are captivated by the game on the 42" flat screen HDTV. "Dad, Can I have on of these in my bedroom?" answer, sorry cannot print it here.
Rajh Cromie hugs the grandchildren of John and Carol Houseman from Yuengling. (Frankie and Johnnie, what great names)
Thats my boy, how adorable (Johnny)
Chris and Marcy stand before a very large catch. Too bad it wasn't us that reeled it in.
at the dock, there were pirates waiting for unsuspecting fisherman
Ahoy ye maty
Back at the dock, well count yours and weigh ours.
Wait a minute, recount I confused a beer can or two as a fish, it was shiney.
The successful party poses with their bounty on the dock. I count 14 Mackerel but we did throw back another five blue fins. Our captain was from Ohio and the Mate was originally from New York City. They made a wise career change.
What a sight, fish are pretty too.
Marcy cameos for Publix seafood department.
We feel your pain Jim Diamantis, this is not UGA's year.
Now this is a sight, food, football and beer.
Sally and George Kirkland, JoAnn Schmidt, Bill Cromie and Dennis Schmidt
Bill Cromie is happy about Dennis Schmidt making it to the party, er MBAA hospitality room. The Grubers watch in disbelief.
Johnny and Frankie again.
ok, we have to be on our best behavior
The kiddie table, is this Thanksgiving?
Somebody took the good parts.
David Voykin and Chris Snyder
