Another installation of the Sunday Paddle Series with Justine, Barry and Roger started at the crack of dawn.
Today it was off to Bardsey Island at the Southern tip of the Llyn Peninsula, one of Justine's and Barry's favorite destinations ... I was about to find out why ...
After paddling through a tiderace and along cliffs we were greeted by the 4-legged inhabitants of Bardsey Island: Dogs, sheeps, cows ...
... goats, ducks (well, that's two legs) ...
... and then Steven and his son Ben (they just brought Steve's wife and daughter to the mainland by boat).
We had lunch and tea in the beautiful farm building, where the Porter family lives for the past 5 years as wardens and farmers on the island.
Visits in the Winter are rare, especially during the gales and storms which blew over Wales and the rest of the UK in the past weeks. Ben and Steve joined us on a walk up the hill.
One unfortunate find 4 weeks ago was an empty life raft, which Steve found in the rocks. The life raft was from the freighter which sunk 4 weeks ago in a storm appr. 15 Miles North West off Bardsey Island.
Humans and dogs enjoyed the walk and the endless views towards the mainland. The day proceeded without major incidents, except ...
... that Barry all of a sudden fell 300 yards down the cliffs. Thankfully Barry was able to rescue himself since we were too busy taking photos first of Barry's most spectacular fall and then of his brave attempt to rescue himself.
The sun was about to go down and we headed back to our kayaks to paddle back home. It felt like getting sent out of paradise.
Thank yous to the Porter family for your hospitality and friendship on Bardsey Island.
