It is a difficult task to pick one of the hundreds of islands in Fiji , but I did a pretty good job by chosing Manta Ray island in the Yasawa group, and just staying there for the entire week.
There is really not much to tell about it. Uninhabited except for the little budget resort. Some houses for the staff. Lots of wild goats and free coconuts.
WIth a spectacular dining hall on the hill with this view.
Cocktails, cocktails, beer, beer, cocktails, beer.
Making braceletts, sleeping in a hammock, lunch, a little swim, more hanging around the bar, a bit of snorkling, and then it's already time for dinner again. Great productive days.
The famous, delicious, amazing Manta Ray fish burger. I had it for 4 days straight.
Rain falling on the islands in the distance.
Me and Missy.
While one side of the island got dark and cold at around 5, the other side had a small beach too where you could view the most amazing sunsets.
A german sleeping in a mosquito net in the dorm, and the island cat sleeping on his bag.
My favourite spot. Spent most of my time with this view.
One day the staff anounced a goat hunting trip. These boys got really excited and spent half an hour preparing their spears and warpaint. I joined the party as one of the few wearing a shirt, and armed with two cameras and a bag. I felt like the reporter of an expedition.
I loved how the island was big enough to have some wilderness on the hill left. Even though we didn't get a goat, it was an awesome trip. We even got a little bit lost at one point.
The dining hall as seen from the top.
The main beach and the next island.
Every picture looks instantly better with a spear in it.
Awesome dutchies, good company for beer and talks on the beach at night, watching the stars.
Or watching more stunning sunsets.
To everybody reading this and feeling miserable after these pictures: please know that the last day of my stay it was horribly cloudy, cold and raining. Hope that makes you feel better.
