"Yeah...my understanding is that tragically (usually because of vandals) these markers were moved and the groundskeepers are unsure where they go now. Sometimes they will replace markers and these will be moved or erosion, plant growth or some other natural causes them to be removed for their own protection. "

"It wasn't that he would beat us or get angry or anything like that. I think it was probably one of those things that when we were very small, it may have gone into the category of things that kids see adults do that must make sense, only because the grownups are doing it... later we probably realized how dangerous it was, but we were of a generation that didn't argue or correct the parents unless there was a damn good reason.

Of course, as we got older and bolder, we did on many occasions mildly (and eventually more forcefully) suggest that he might drop back, which he always did, but over a few miles he would creep up again. Old habits die hard!

It never made any sense to me why he drove like that. He was an extremely intelligent man, as well as a loving and funny one. It sounds funny to say, we didn't try to correct his driving because we didn't want to hurt his feelings, but that comes closer to the truth than anything else! :)"
