Neue Wache (The New Guard House) was built in 1816, its now a memorial to the victims of fascism.
Mother with her Dead Son is the sculpture inside Neue Wache. There is a hole cut in the ceiling that exposes the sculpture to the elements. Under the sculpture there is a Nazi soldier and a concentration camp victim.

The memorial is a room of empty book shelves with enough room for 20,000 books. The number of books that were burned in the square.
Humbolt University's library is where the 20,000 books that were burned in the square were acquired from. Now they have a book sale every day, rain or shine, to atone for their role.
