Birch Bay Camping Trip with the Guys

The Widgeon Adventure

Luke, Jon, Nathanael, Alicia and I, headed our way up Widgeon Slough and hiked to the falls. The day was comprised of paddling, getting stuck due to low tide, portaging, hiking, as well as venturing upstream the falls via rocks and forest--lots of fun overall.

Sunset at Mud Bay

Was driving home down the 99 and saw the sun setting--then I was excited. So I drove like crazy till I got to Mud Bay and then ran in my steel toe boots to catch the setting sun. SOOOO BEAUTIFUL! Praise the Lord!

HIke to Norvan Falls in the Snow

It's boxing day, and with nothing to do I needed to do something. A hike it was. I expected rain, and got snow up in the Lynn Headwaters area as I hiked to the falls. It was awesome! These are taken with my phone--hence the lower quality.

Winter Kayak Journey to Widgeon Falls

What a crazy time! First we show up as the fog is lifting, then we shove off and it gets so thick we couldn't see the other side of the lake. We make our way down the slough and there are giant eagles EVERYWHERE! That and giant dead fish at the bottom of the slough everywhere. Very challenging, but I kept trying to get photos of the many large eagles in the fog.

Went for a walk with my dog, Mikey, through Surrey Lake. Encountered several eagles, one of which tried to drop a stick on me. There we other birds and ducks. It was awesome!

Olympic National Park

July 22-24, my friend Nathanael and I headed down to Olympic National Park in Washington, USA. It was a beautiful place to visit, filled with 3 major ecosystems. First we went to drove there including photos from Deception Pass, saw a very happy RV, took a ferry from Coupeville to Port Townsend, stayed overnight by and kayaked on Lake Cresent. Following that we went to the Hoh Rain Forest, and carried onto Rialto Beach on the Pacific Ocean. The following day, we headed back and went up Hurricane Ridge.

Widgeon Falls Hike and Camping

My Dad and I kayaked with our gear and Mikey to Widgeon Falls Campground where we stayed overnight and hiked to the falls the next day. Mikey became very adventurous, climbing onto the bow of the kayak and falling into the water twice.

Hike to Eagle Bluff

My Dad and I hiked to Whyte Lake first, following Nelson Creek, starting from Hwy 1. We continued from Whyte Lake up the Baden Powell trail to Eagle Bluff, climbing over a scree field (where I carried Mikey), and up some very vertical trails. We made it (with plenty of breaks for a certain someone), up the 3000+ ft of elevation gain, and 6km one-way of trail. The view was incredible! Take a look.

Falls Lake Hike

In October, my dad and I took a hike to Falls Lake up near the peak of the Coquihalla Hwy. That night it dropped to a chilly -5˚C. In the morning after not sleeping much, my dad insisted on making pancakes. They tasted awesome!

Powerhouse @ Stave Falls

Got to love field trips. This one was to the BC Hydro Powerhouse at Stave Falls. This place was built in 1909 and operated until 2000. It was only shut down because a much more efficient generating station was built just upstream to replace it. These generators supplied parts of the Lower Mainland with power for over 90 years and were only designed with an estimated lifespan of 30. Pretty sweet eh?

Grouse Mountain Wind Turbine Field Trip

Our class went up to Grouse Mountain to check out the new wind turbine they've built there. It's huge. Each blade is 36m long and weighs 12,000lbs. The structure stands 102m tall. We got to snow shoe up to it.

2 Day Urban Missions

The final Interns outing was to go from Hope to West Vancouver and then over to Victoria the next day. As we went we would be praying for the mayors, cities, churches and spiritual hotspots. We also took a silent stand for LIFE - against the genocide of the unborn (abortions).

Missions Trip to India

From January 16th-February 7th we (the Cedar Grove Interns) were in India on a Journey of Compassion Mission's Trip through Impact Nations. We met up with about 25 other people and did medical clinics, street ministry, prayed for healing for people (God did some amazing stuff!), and did some other sort of outreach. In addition to the two weeks, out team of Interns stayed a third week in India (Andra Pradesh Province in Chillakallu near Hyderabad) and did some more ministry as well as a bit of touring of the sights in Vijaywada and Hyderabad.

School of Interns Bootcamp

For bootcamp for the Cedar Grove Baptist School of Interns, we went up to Westminster Abbey and stayed up at Hemlock Mountain in a Cabin. We had an amazing time encountering God through reading over 8 books of the New Testament and as we worshiped. We also got the amazing opportunity of being prophesied over and having a friend of God, Noah, speak to us and share with us. He also made us all very very excited about our missions trip to India in January

Arise, (formerly known as Solid Rock), went to the United Church Camp for our end of summer retreat from August 25-28. I went up one day early with the YDS team because I was on the band and we had lots of setup to do. Praise God, it did not rain for the whole week and we had some sunny and rain free weather!!

Cedar Grove Grad Camping

Most of the grads from Solid Rock went camping together up at Stef’s cabin. The girls stayed in a tent trailer, guys in Taj Ma-Robbie (AJ’s huge tent) and Stef’s parents and siblings in the cabin. We had an awesome time. We spent Saturday and Sunday down at Kawkawa Lake in Hope, BC. We mostly tubed, but Jason, Calin, Cherysh and Jon, tried out wakeboarding. There was also lots of boat rides and opportunities for people like to me to take photos. So heres a bunch of photos from our awesome weekend.

My third grad friday in a row. This one was with youth group at church. It was a good time and we got full service waiters :P. AJ kind of took advantage of that by making them pour water into his glass when the pitcher was right in front of him. Oh, Bryce wore a pink suit. It’s awesome!

My 18th Birthday/Grad Party

Well this year I had this massive party all rolled into one. I had my birthday and grad party and had my aunts, and uncles over as well as friends. Earlier in the afternoon, Rebekah, Zack, AJ and we made a very random movie. Later on Mark and Francesca arrived and we hung out and amused ourselves in many ways. Jordan’s family along with Nathanael came and we hung out till dinner and after dinner went outside for a bit. It was a fun day which we ended off with watching August Rush.

Inter-A Grad @ Newlands Golf Course

We had the Inter-A Grad Dinner at a nice golf course in White Rock, for which the name escapes my mind at this moment. The dinner was a buffet of all sorts of great food. I was at a table with Doug’s Family and Mr. Blenman. We had a great time and I got the Vollrath-Harper Scholarship which is quite an honour. It is for someone with special character and attitude, etc. Oh and don’t forget about the McDonald’s Sign we saw on the way to drop Nathanael off at home.

On June 3rd, I went out to the Abbey Arts Centre which is connected to Abbotsford Collegiate to see my friend Francesca play. She played in so many different groups I had my head spinning. I also got to see her brother Andreas play in the drum line, that was pretty awesome!

N. Vancouver After Grad

Well, my Saturday started soon after my 2 hours of sleep. Francesca and I met Mark and Tiffany, two friends, at the Guildford Tim Hortons to head off to North Vancouver. But first at 8:15, I got a phone call from Mark and I was half asleep as he talked to me and I told him we were meeting at Tim Hortons. Since this wasn’t part of the original plan for him to be with Tiffany, I was very confused. I ended up checking my caller Id afterwards thinking that it was all a dream. So we all went down to North Vancouver, and saw the Lynn Valley Days Festival, and then went to Lonsdale Quay for lunch and explored afterwards. Francesca got seriously dissed by Mark as she stood over the parking space labelled “Reserved for ICBC”. He told her that the reason she was in the reserved space was because she was an accident waiting to happen. We also got to see Francesca play in the Music Festival :D

Kwantlen Park Dry Grad

Well, grad was fun. I brought Francesca, my beautiful “date” with me to grad, and we had a great time. First was the dinner dance, but we didn’t do much dancing, didn’t really like the music. The food was great though. We ended up hanging out and chatting about all sorts of things. Then at 11pm we were taken on buses to the boat cruise where we ended up just hanging out again. I really didn’t mind that much. It was great to take it easy and have fun. At about 4:40am after some delays we headed to the school where we got picked up and her and I took a quick nap at my house for 2 hours.

Belize Missions Trip - Day 1

Well, our plane took off at 11:55pm from Sea-Tac airport Seattle Friday night. We arrived in Belize at about 10am Saturday morning and as we stepped off the plane we were immediately hit with a wall of hot humid air! We went to the Global Village Hotel, ten minutes from the airport, and had lunch. The bottles they have for pop are cool because they give you real glass bottles :).
