In 1830 Eugène Delacroix created a huge painting (3.25 by 2.6 m) La Liberté guidant le peuple ("Liberty Leading the People") to commemorate the July Revolution of the same year. His painting has become the symbol of the revolutions that ended feudal rule in France and is now regarded as the symbol of the French Revolution of 1789:
