The volcano El Mist (5822m) looming above Arequipa. This was taken from my current hotel's roof terrace and is also what I see when I sit on my bed and look out the door.
Our tent in base camp at 4700m
In case you need convincing that El Misti is a typical cone-shaped volcano: this is the shadow it cast over the landscape as the sun rose behind it. The tip lies over Arequipa.
The view while climbing El Misti. Behind the canyons and before the hills lies Arequipa.
A closer look at the landscape at the foot of El Misti. The shadows of the rising sun make the canyons and rivers stand out.
At the edge of the crater. The summit of El Misti is in the top middle of this pic.
My group climbing the last part to the summit; Arequipa behind and 3300m below them.
Me on top of El Misti, behind me the neighbouring mountain Chachani (6077m)
A close-up of Chachani. You need to view this at full quality ('Download Photo') to appreciate the colours.
The crater of El Misti. On the horizon on the left you see its fellow volcano Ubinas, which has been blowing smoke since a few weeks

Me on top of El Misti making the nice pictures you just saw (thx Daan)
The whole group posing with the 10m high cross that was put on the summit of El Misti in 1901 (thx Daan)
My shadow on the 'river' of ashes that descends from El Misti
We start our descent from El Misti by walking down the river of ashes. The slope is more than 45 degrees, as you can see on this pic (that green stuff on top is the landscape 3000m below us!) but once we got the hang of it we were running straight down which was great fun and looked hilarious - check the movies on my site!

A look back up the mountain after we finished the fun part of the descent through the sandy ashes.
