Recent Photos

My approach: With wildlife photography the beauty of birds and other wildlife deserves all the credit. The challenge is capturing an image that comes close to representing how truly amazing the subject is. I never use recordings to lure any birds in. If a bird is close enough, I may make vocalizations to make the bird turns towards or take a better look at me. The welfare of the birds or other wildlife is the most important thing and I won't jeopardize that for a photo. In other modes of photography (scenic and abstract nature) I enjoy challenging my creative side in an effort to make an interesting and artistic image. Feel free to contact me at bnatural2@gmail.com

Grand Manan 2008 II

Grand Manan Island is located in the Bay of Fundy and is part of New Brunswick, Canada. It is a beautiful island with a rich fishing tradition and amazing natural history. I am lucky enough to take a group to the island for the Audubon Society of RI. We whale watch, birdwatch and exploring the island over the course of 4 days.

Grand Manan

Grand Manan Island is at the entrance to the Bay of Fundy. It's a beautiful island rich with natural history- it also is rich with maritime history. The fishing villages, lighthouses and culture add to the experience of this amazing place.

Barn Owls

I've been been involved with Joe Zbyrowski's project on Barn Owls over the last ten plus years. The project has involved the construction and installation of nest boxes at several RI locations. The net result has been several succesful broods over the years. One site produces two broods a year and there are presently three pairs using nest sites constructed by Joe. Joe, a licensed bander, has been banding most young as they reached fledging age. Some owls have fledged before they could be banded. We routinely check the boxes for maintenance and clean out the pellets. I have slides of the banding that I may include in this folder in the future.

Monhegan Island

Monhegan Island is a small island off the coast of Maine. During spring migration, northward bound birds will often get pushed out to sea by winds during migration- Monhegan offers a refuge for them to make landfall and rest. Rarities show up here each year and birdwatchers flock to the island to see them. The island is also popular with artists who are attracted to the charm of the fishing village and dramatic landscape.
