Kat "The People's Champion" Rakowsky did a fantastic job yesterday at Morton's. The three faces of Kat were: (1) confidence (when seeing the double porterhouse in raw form); (2) self-doubt (when the actual steak was set before her; in truth, at that point, I thought I had won the bet); and (3) determination (while eating the final third of the steak, unemotionally masticating like a beef eating robot).
A small (and mildly disgusting) story of Kat's integrity. At a certain point in the night, Kat was tottering between making it down the home stretch or collapsing in defeat. At this point, she put a piece of steak in her mouth and spit it out, claiming it was gristle. I, believing that Kat was "Morris-ing out," threw that piece of steak in my mouth and began to chew. It was, indeed, gristle.
