Kepler Table
Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) was a German mathematician, astronomer and astrologer. He is best known for his three laws of planetary motion. The Kepler Table shows his first law - planets move in elliptical orbits, with the sun in one focus - and his second law - the line connecting the sun and a planet, sweeps out equal areas in equal times.
The elliptical table top is made from 14 (nearly) triangular pieces of Honduras rosewood, which each have the same surface area, but different length and width. The support of the table is laminated with more than 50 thin layers of black walnut.
I made this table in order to celebrate my masters degree in astronomy. When it was finished, I found myself employed in my own company in wood projects.
