February 17, 2012 - Hidalgo County joins ECISD Panel Discussion on Firearm Safety

Today’s discussion was focused on cultivating ideas which would assist Senator Hinojosa and Representative Munoz in drafting legislation that could improve firearm safety around schools not only in Hidalgo County, but throughout the State of Texas. Although no immediate solutions were specified, there were a variety of viable options presented by all stakeholders affected by the issue.

Urban County Christmas Gift Giving 2011

For several years Urban County Program employees have opened their hearts and made contributions to an inter-office collection utilized to purchase Christmas gifts for Hidalgo County families. Each year our agency selects up to four families whose yearly income is at or below 30% of the area median income for Hidalgo County. After several weeks of planning and open communication with the parents to determine each child’s interests, gifts are purchased with the intent of making the entire family’s Christmas a little brighter.

December 29, 2011 - Commissioners' Court

Hidalgo County Commissioners’ Court approved a resolution in honor of County employee Rolando Lopez. Mr. Lopez has been employed at the County Auditor’s office for 18 years, having served under four County Auditors. Mr. Lopez retires at the end of this year, attributing his decision to retire to a desire to spend more quality time with his family. Lopez gave heartfelt remarks attesting to his positive experience working for the County, and thanked and wished the Court well.

October 11, 2011 - Courthouse Master Plan Committee Meeting

The Hidalgo County Courthouse Master Plan Committee held its first meeting today in Edinburg to discuss future plans for the existing Hidalgo County Courthouse. The committee was created by Hidalgo County Commissioners’ Court to serve in an advisory capacity and resource group between the stakeholders and constituents of Hidalgo County and the Courthouse Master Plan consulting team, ERO Architects, led by Eli R. Ochoa, PE, AIA.

The HIDA-REY Binational Health Council was created to strengthen binational partnerships, tackle binational public health issues, and promote public health awareness. The HIDA-REY Binational Health Council is led by Hidalgo County Health and Human Services, Jurisdicción Sanitaria No. IV de Reynosa and other public health agencies and organizations, whose joint mission is to raise public awareness of diseases and public health issues currently being experienced in Hidalgo County and Reynosa.

Commissioner Joseph Palacios was the guest speaker at the Hidalgo County Veterans Service Office and South Texas Health System's "Veterans ROCK EnROLLment Fair." The event was held in remembrance of the tenth anniversary of September 11, and its purpose was to encourage all Veterans to apply for benefits. Commissioner Joseph Palacios thanked all Veterans, acknowledging their instrumental role in protecting our nation's fundamental tenet of freedom, and urging them to get the benefits they rightly deserve.

June 7, 2011 77th Annual STCJC Spouses Luncheon

Spouses of Commissioners and Judges who attended the 77th Annual South Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association Annual Conference were treated to a fashion luncheon at the Cimarron Country Club in Mission. After the show, spouses were able to purchase items from local vendors such as Lionel's Western Wear of Weslaco, Renee's of Sharlyand, Scentchips, and numerous others. Special guest models included Hidalgo County District Clerk Laura Hinojosa and Justice of the Peace for Precinct 2 the Honorable Rosa Trevino. Thank you so much to all our vendors and models who participated, you truly made this event a success!

The 77th Annual STCJC Host Court Night was hosted at the McAllen Convention Center. All guests were treated to dinner and performances by the UTPA Mariachi, UTPA Ballet Folklorico, and local comedian Bonnie Hernandez.Entertainment for the night was provided by local band Latin Beat. We would like to thank all those who attended and we hope you enjoyed the evening.
