This was the beginning of our trip, on a crappy and cloudy Saturday morning. In the picture, Anita, Sam, and Michael wait for the third bus to the Tsawassen ferry terminal.
I am not sure why, but every time we changed buses one of us ended up with the roll of toilet paper on our hands. In this photo you can see Anita, queen of the ... roll?? {Photo by Michael Thessel}
Two flags in the ferry. This was actually not the right ferry: we missed the good ride, and that is why instead of one hour it took us 7 hours to get to Galiano. Fun times.
A classic: safety boat.
Instead of Tsawassen - Galiano we had to go Tsawassen - Sydney (BC) - Galiano. We found ourselves a bit lost, so it was reassuring to see that our tickets were taking us back to Earth!
We had to spent 4 hours in Sydney, BC, a city full of retirement homes. We "borrowed" a shopping cart to take our belongings (i.e., a million bottles of booze) and headed down the street looking for a place to have lunch.
As I said, fun times. Anita started to show signs of concern. (Anybody finds this pic familiar?)
We ended up at the fishers' market looking for something to eat. You cannot swim there, we were informed.
But seagulls can.
We parked out cart very, very well, and proceeded to negotiate the price of a boiled crab.
At this point, Anita looked about to head back home and leave us lunatics there on the beach...
But when she saw the crab, she decided to stay. We did not have any cutlery, although the two rocks in the picture worked well enough! Long live un-civilization!
And after a few sips of our white wine, Anita looked pretty happy.
Who could blame her ... these were the views from our lunch table on the beach.
Michael always want to be like Leonardo di Caprio in Titanic.
We finally boarded the ferry to Galiano. Some of us were really, really tired...
... and missed the spectacular landscapes of the Georgia Straight. {Photo by Michael Thessel}

After a 40 minute ride in *the* island cab, we made it to the cabin. There, Michael decided he liked the carpet look.
This is the cabin. The house on the left has a bath and a sauna.

The next day we had run out of food and booze, so we divided the work: Sam and Michael stayed at home chopping wood and Anita and I hitchicked to the other end of the island to go grocery shopping. It is sad to see how easily we fall into traditional gender roles!!
That night we had a fun party that ended well for most of us...
... others regretted later on.
Soon, they were feeling better. We walked a while around Dionisio natural park, on the Northern tip of Galiano island, to wrap up our little adventure.
The tide was low and we took a slippery walk on the rocks.
These can be slippery!! {Photo by Michael Thessel}

This time, we had lunch looking at the eagles and the seals. It was amazing.
But we had to go back home, and we did, although not very happily. {Photo by Michael Thessel}
And in the way we saw a woodpecker. {Photo by Michael Thessel}
On the ferry to Vancouver, only Michael was still happy. The rest were devastated by the idea of going back to work after such a nice trip. Thanks for the good times, beets!!
